This is sort of a general thought I've had about the way space looks in EVE. In my opinion, there is not enough plain old, empty, black space. There are always gas clouds in the background or remnants of supernovas, as they may be. I like it when it's just pitch black with twinkling stars in the background. I do like some of the clouds in the background, but they seem to usually be too bright or too much. When I look out at the stars, I don't usually see lots and lots of nebulas and gas clouds hanging out all over the place.
This is just my opinion, and this really isn't very important. haha. whatever.

IIRC all system backgrounds are being re-done and will allegedly be positional. So if you see a big blue nebulae in one direction and jump towards it on the map you will supposedly end up much closer or in said nebulae (well as far as system backdrops go anyway). ============================ 2003 and still alive! |

is that so? interesting, i did not know that! i always wondered if that was true, but eventually i saw that it wasn't. where'd you hear that they were redoing the backgrounds?

I'd like to be able to turn off all the background "space stuffs" and just have a nice pitch black background with some stars here and there. |

The only space you are seeing is the inhabited (reletivly) parts. Apparently, mankind choose to visit all the nebulae and set up shop....plain old black space with twinkly stars was less interesting.
Plus... have you noticed how inertia works with your ship? When we came through the EVE gate, we entered Etheric Space---there's something out there that we are moving through, our ancestors in the 15th century called it Ether, and it was an elemental component of all creation. Apparently they were right, and either we live in a bubble devoid of it now, or else EVE exists in a particularly thick area of it.
In any case, big clouds of stuff are far more common in Etheric Space, that's why you see it everywhere.
[yes, I pulled this explanation out of my nether regions, it's not in the lore. :) ]

Couldn't find the link but can confirm what I've seen this post where devs promised us such dynamic background system. Looking forward to it very much because similar system in Homeworld used to give epic sence of scale.

haha let's not even get into a discussion about the physics in EVE... because i totally agree with you, they make no sense. max velocity in space just is not realistic in the least... the thing that i've always liked about EVE is that most of the science-type stuff is generally plausible, with the exception of that kind of stuff.
but anyway, i agree with the post that states he would rather just have a mostly black background with twinkling stars. me too! it looks so much better, and sometimes even more eery! I don't like how those clouds even emit enough light to light up parts of the ship! i like it when the sun casts a dark dark shadow muahahaha.
