On E-Bay there are 50,000,000 ISK for sale, as well as Scout Artillery. I find it sad that someone cares so little about the game to do this, and disappointing that people are willing to pay. Over ú500 in the case of the ISK. I'm really enjoying the Eve experience but I'm now asking myself what's the point of playing ?

Those with alot of time and little money are generaly the sellers and the buyers are the opposite. Evens out in a way.

Yeah. The money is there anyway. Does it really matter who has it?

More power to them if they sell. Make a RL profit to pay for this and maybe 2 or 3 other games where they do the same thing.
Some make a small living off of games like these. |

Hiya
Actually your missing the point. A player in game or a collection of players had to earn the isk or spend hours finding the guns etc from npc pirates. So its up to them what they choose to do with said items is it not? The point of playing is to have fun and for some this involves not spending forever and a day mining to earn 50 million isk (these make excellent buyers) Do they gain advantage over you? Not really! The advantage just shifts in game from the player who earnt the isk to the player he sells it to. This is called an economy. You pay your mopney you takes your choice. You have the choice to partake of this economy or not in all its forms. Be you a Pirate or a Simple Alt creeper! Sooner or later you'll dance with Soul Reaver and His Amazing Underpants

The points fairly moot - as far as I'm aware trading such as on E-bay is in violation of CCP's EULA etc...
Anyone caught doing it (buyer and seller I would assume) is likely to get their account closed.

CCP's already stated that they won't interfere with or encourage ebaying.
So no, nobody's account is going to be closed.

Ever played a game with the god mode cheat or advanced to the point where you were so powerful you never had to struggle? To me these games lose their fun in very short order once this happens. I usually quit playing them because they become boring very quickly.
To me the fun is in the journey....not in the destination, to set a goal and work towards accomplishing it. If someone, for whatever reason, wants to shortcut the process buy buying isks or uber weapons with real money, I say it's their loss.

Not that I really care - but I find it fun (well - actually find it pathetic) that people would actually spend so much money, real life money - for so little in-game money.

CCP could stop the eBaying if they wanted to but.. they dont want to. eBay has a program where if you feel your intelluctual property rights are bing violated they will end an auction for you. I posted on this board the first week Eve was release a link to where CCP could go to sign up for this and they have not done it.
Want a 10 million ISK? 50 million ISK? A MOA ? Hard to find weapons? Moduels? If your to dumb or lazy to get the stuff your self in game and have the cash thats where you can get it.
IMHO selling in game stuff for real money kinda sucks but in the long run it probably wont hurt the game.... much. It will probably only scare a few hundered or maybe a even a thousand people away from Eve. But heay what ten to fiftten thousand per month in lost income to a company like CCP... chicken feed.
Back when I was playing UO I knew a guy that actually quit his job and spent his days playing UO on half a dozen accounts and making like $10,000 per month selling stuff on eBay and Player Auctions.
So.. whos going ot be the first full-time EVE player?

If people r stupid enough to buy it you can't blame anyone for offering.
I remember someone paid $1200 for a Matrix device for Earth & Beyond and then the devs nerfed the device. Man was that funny, he was screaming like a baby girl in the forums for ages.

That's a self-emplyed job too, so you could claim back tax on the game, computer, electricity.... etc. On the downside you'd turn into a moron.

As some one said: CCP doesnt care who sells what in RL.
This sort of sale is sort of crappy and sad. BUT it really doesnt bother me that someone is getting ahead like this. EVE is very similar to real life. Everyday some idiot inherits a billion dollars. Who cares. EVE is a big universe, I will never own a station and I will never run a giant corp. Even if I do, does this mean I won at Eve? No. I will make my little name in the huge universe and have fun doing it.

Think about it this way.. Just like in RL, people get inheritances... You could reason that this person had a benifactor or a relative who passed away and left the cash. Just goes to show, not everyone can be even in the game... actually, I prefer it that way... presents a challenge to those who want it, and makes it easier for those who do not. I personally will not buy anything on ebay for this game, but I would not be against selling.

Rule 16 for the in game board (this board) says:
You may not post advertisements. Posts discussing or linking to online auction sites or the sale of in-game goods or services for real money are strictly prohibited.
And the EULA states:
You may not transfer, sell or auction, or buy or accept any offer to transfer, sell or auction (or offer to do any of the foregoing), any content appearing within the Game environment, including without limitation characters, character attributes, items, currency, and objects, other than via a permitted Account Transfer as described above. You may not encourage or induce any other person to participate in such a prohibited transaction. The buying, selling or auctioning (or any attempt at doing so) of characters, character attributes, items, currency, or objects, whether through online auctions (such as ebay), newsgroups, postings on message boards or any other means is prohibited by the EULA and a violation of CCP's proprietary rights in the Game.
So anyone using ebay is violating the eula and can have their account closed and by rights this thread should be locked by now :) Wheres Wrangler when you want him :))

If anyone is stupid enough to buy isk on E-bay he should be taken outside and given a damn good thrashing.

people have been doing this with MMOGs since UO. I personally know someone that sold his god built UO account for well over $1,000. People will do the same in EVE, there is no reason to get worked up over it. ------------------

Well, there's the Trade channel too. I like the trade channel - you can make good money in there, wheeling and dealing.

FYI for ya all... according to some reports for some friends, someone has hacked ebay and paypal accounts right now to buy isk for $$ then reversing payments... seems to have several ebay and paypal accounts. Tentative totals are over $50,000 in isk bought.
Paypal, Ebay, and CCP won't do crap about it...
So FYI, if any of you are dumb enough to buy isk on ebay, it probably is coming from someone who could be very, very DEEP in credit card fraud.
