I always found it a bit odd that a giant secure container could be overfilled in less than one cycle, the largest mining vessel is at max capacity after only six minutes, and every three mining vessels need two dedicated haulers to keep up on demand in transport. The Orca's cargobay only serves as a buffer, and not a very good buffer at that. IMO, there is something wrong.
I would like to propose current ore and mineral volumes be reduced to 20% (50% for ice) of their current values, and exhumers have their cargobays reduced to 75% of their current capacity. This will give GSCs a reason to be anchored in space, and give a reasonable fill time for mining barges. It will also lift the very heavy weight that is placed on a mammoth's shoulders. The need (and ability) to compress minerals into modules will also be severely reduced.

Might be worth exploring I guess. Although the current idea is to force miners to work together. Allowing a mining ship to be substantially self-supported is clearly not the direction CCP wishes to go, and I have to agree. The current size issues allow for the existence and necessity of rorqs, orcas, etc as well.

while i agree with the reduction of ore volume the reduction of a mining barges/ exhumer cargo hold is not smething we want to do . not every one is a group miner and if you rig out a hulk right it has just under 18KM3 space which to a solo miner is really good. knocking that down would only server to greatly anoy them

As a carebear with teeth and a switchblade, I can totally agree with this. A hulk should not need to compete with haulers in the area of raw storage capacity in order to do its job. Aside from the gang bonuses, the Orca is next to useless because ore is too damn big to carry. I honestly don't see the need for a hulk to have 8k, or even 6k as you suggest, of capacity to do its job this way. A 50% cargo reduction would be more appropriate I think.
This in conjunction with a 7.5k volume, 9k capacity massive secure container would mean the end for the need to use jetcans to make mining a viable profession. ____________________ CCP: Catering to the cowards of a cold, harsh universe since November, 2006. |

If a hulk was knocked down to 12k m3, it would be much better than it is now because ore would only consume 20% of its current volume. 12k of ore would effectively be the same as 60k of ore right now, a solo miner's wet dream.

Well... Maybe a 50% reduction would work. At 4k m3 stock, a hulk would have similar room for 20k m3 worth of time to recycle.
And a HELL YES on the Massive Secure Container!!
