If I go in to help a carebear it's normally because I'm being greedy and trying to kill the pirate and the carebear after they've engaged each other already... ------------

Well, if a pirate was engaging a carebear at a belt and I knew I could take the pirate on, I'd most likely go for him first, as he'll be the one packing the DPS, as well as the sweet lewts.
If the carebear stays in the engagement until the end, he's going down too. I think I've done this a few times, can't quite remember.

For reasons of anonymity you can not spill the beans about killing pirates. Your ill informed mission running/belt mining pilot will not read this forum. Hence the reason the pirates have sheep to fleece. On the flip side those who fleece pirates can not tout their success, if they do so then the pirates know the jig is up and will avoid the trap.
The simple truth is there are not enough pirates out there to kill. When I was on my anti can flipper operation I killed 18 ships without a single loss... using a PvP fitted hulk. It took an average of 2.5 hours of sitting in a belt acting like a dumb jet canning miner before a sucker... excuse me, pirate would show up.
Now I suppose this is slightly off topic. Your asking about pirates saving carebears and I am speaking of the carebear ganking the pirate. I will tell you this, Pirate tears are far better then carebear tears. The joy at knowing somewhere out there is a player that is so excited that they found a sucker to fleece... then the horror when they see that they are the one that is going to lose their ship. Oh, the beauty. I filmed most of those 18 fights and when you look back on them you see that most of the pirates are so shaken they do not even fire back. Oh, the giggles over every loss they have last for days.

I used to be a pure Carebear... When the call would go out I'd park my barges and go fight the "Bad" guys. After many wars of bailing out my kinfolk with little or no thanks or assistance somthing happened. I have become what I've fought all along.... A pure killer. Know what? I love it & there is no going back. So be carfull Carebears... locking up your foes in glorious battles will plant the seeds of Yarrage in your soul. I'm living proof. Max

I saved a carebear from an evil pirate before... he was ratting in a belt and I warped in to pop him but someone else had the same idea... so a fight ensued between me and the other pirate and the carebear warped off

I know that some people like to have voluntary periods of abstinence.
Yeah, I use that excuse too.

Sorry, Can flippers aren't pirates.
For the same reason I can not comment on how I kill pirates, this was merely an example that I could speak of since my Battle Hulk is not currently in active service.
