It would be great if it can be made possible 2 manage your skills and mail while your not at your eve-pc. Like logging in on a website with username and password and be able 2 change a skill 2 be learned or read your in-game mail. It would be really handy when u are at work (when u have a break :) ) or when u are on a holiday....

A little command-line *nix utility for EVEmail and Skill training would be sweet. --------------=o0O+O0o=-------------- Grand Vizier and General Factotum

Its definatly something I would like, but as for skills I would also like to see it changed so that if you have a skill training over to lvl2 when it completes it will automatically carry on to lvl3 and so on untill you tell it to train another skill. "Death Before Dishonor" |

Good idea. I also like the idea of the skill going on to the next level after completion of the previous. Even if it is a setting you have to enable or something.

Yup, Auto-next level as an option would be really handy.

Why play the game then? This is another thing I don't think should be implemented. Making it possible to send emails to in game recipients would open the door to 100s of thousands in bandwidth upgrades and server creation and maintenance. Not to mention extreme latency due to spam. Having auto-queue, though sounding like a nice feature, would defeat the purpose of playing Eve.

The Auto Queue Idea is a good one, IMO. While I am at work I am unable to train any skills if they complete while I am not home. This causes myself, and I am sure many, many other players, to lose valuable traiing time for their character.
Having an option to continue to the next level or, when current training in completed, go to another skill and train would be nice. But, limit it to one other skill or level. Having the option to train a skill from 1 to 5 without logging in at all would be a little much.

Smokedog, u have a point there. That way the lag would become even worse for eve-players. The mail-option is in fact an extra feature. The main idea is 2 be able 2 manage your skills when u do not have the opportunity 2 play eve (like @ work or on holiday),but do have internet acces. This way valuable skill-learning time can still be managed

lag issue is solved easily... Create a mail-server that is separate from the game-server. Just linked, but not the same.

I have to agree with smokedog. Either of these ideas (both of which are valid) goes against the spirit of playing.
I am using the 'careful skill planning' method. if it's <6 hours, I'll do it during a session. >6 hours = overnight. >10 hours = while at work.
If you are nearing the end of one skill (say, 20 minutes to go) and *have* to go out (for food, or to meet other hu-mans) then just switch to something else that will cover your absence, and do the 20mins when you get back.
If I *could* automate it all, I would of course (to keep pace) but I don't think it is what CCP have in mind.
I know this wasn't the short answer you asked for, but if I kept it short, it wouldn't have made much sense. .

Oh, and the mail thing would open my in-game box to some ridiculous amounts of spam, unless security was implemented, etc. .

Just prohibit spamming If you spam, you get banned. Pure, simple :)

I'd have to agree with SmokeDog on this one.
On a related note.. Personally I use a VNC client (Tight VNC) to access my home PC from work and manage my skill training. VNC is not really useful to play the game, since the screen updates are quite slow unless you have really high bandwidth (and also my boss might have issues with it ;)) but for simple things like sending in-game messages, or activating skills, it works just fine. ---

Thanx for your reply drunken master. I disagree with your opinion it goes against the spirit of playing. I think it contributes 2 it. This way people can play eve (the skills at least) while on vacation. It would actually raise my spirit when i'm on a holiday and i can do a quick skill switch so that the time ain't lost. This way people will be really 'hooked' on eve 365 days a year.

I don't think creating a light-weight CLI for some aspects of the game would be a bad thing. You would still have to "Log-on" to play the game. You just won't get the veristility of the full GUI.
Things I would love to do without the full GUI:
- Manage buy and sell orders. This could be from the current station you own. you don't get access to the full market, but you can at least check your orders and adjust prices or add things that just came off the production line.
- Manage Skills
- Manage Eve Mail
- Manage FActories/Labs
For the most part, any station activity of your current station should be doable though a CLI. Graphics are nice, but I don't need them all the time :)

Gustavef, I like your idea I don't know what a CLI is, but it could also be something like a web-based downstripped eve-client. It would be a perfect solution for many!
