Hello guys, I'd like a bit of advice if you don't mind.
My corp missions in Gallente space and I am looking for a good gun boat to run missions with. I can fly the ships from all 4 races, but I am bored with Drone boats and Missiles (So no Raven and Domi suggestions plz).
I love my Amarr ships but I'm really hesitant to buy an Abaddon since I am unsure how well it would perform because it's damage output seems like it would be rather limited against the Serpentis rats. I have used an AC Maelstrom before but tbh I didn't much care for it.
Any suggestions? Would an Abaddon be too much of a pain or should I look towards something else? So far I have considered the following ships: Beam-fit Abby, Rail-fit Mega, Blaster-fit Hype or an Arty-fit Mael.
Thanks in advance and my apologies for the wall-o-text. |

Yeah. I actually wouldn't mind getting one eventually. Sadly, it is currently a bit out of my price range. I guess I could stick it out with using a Raven and/or Domi while I save up and just put a hold on making any huge ISK investments. |

Serpentis has thermal as secondary resist hole to kinetic primary. Megapulse with Scorch, which hit mostly EM, will have issues. Tach with multi does decently. With Abaddon's megapulse, you'll probably end up using t1 crystals instead of scorch for longer ranges. |

Have you thought about trying a beam 'Geddon? You could try out the damage against the Serpentis for a week or two for 80 million less than buying an Abaddon for it. |

If you have shield skills and laser skills and some isk laying around, I would suggest a Nightmare. I used it in Gallente space and it was just fine. It will also get you into incursion fleets extremely quickly if you decide to do them. I switch between mega pulses and tachyon's depending on the mission. |

Not sure why all the laser love in this thread. Mach/Vargur are indeed the BS of choice in Gallente space, and I'd probably take a Maelstrom (or Dominix) if those were off the table.
To the OP, try a Mael if you're bored with drones/missiles. It doesn't have the obscene falloff of its big brothers, but it can handle an arti fit for long range missions just fine while keeping ACs for shorter ones. Then save for a Mach and see what you've been mission. But certainly don't bother with a pricey toy like a NM outside of Amarr space. |

If you thinking of a Mach down the road, the Maelstrom is a nice intro of sorts.. |

I flew an arty Tempest, with cruise missiles n drones until a friend hassled me into getting the machariel. Oh lawdy the armor repping cap stable arty mach just eats any L4 in Gallente space, swap the ammo and hardeners around for different npc's and you're gold. Downside is: mach will spoil you rotten, everything else seems slow weak and ugly. |

778 DPS, can tank up to 1380 Serpentis DPS.
Swap the cannons out for 1400's and DPS would be up to 840.
I put the T1 SBA in to demonstrate the CPU capabilities of this setup, but if you decide to splurge and put in a DG SBA, then tank goes from 1380 to 1456. Need a CPU implant though for that to work. |

In other words, go shield tank. |
