Past all of the drama, the scandal, the speculation, the accusations of guilt and the protestations of innocence, the recent EBANK collapse is actually a Very Good Thing for all involved. No really it is.
I've played EVE for 6 and a bit years now under this char and my main Bertie. I've seen people succeed and fail, come and go. I've seen awesome innovation and examples of commercial genius, and I've seen naivety and ineptitude that would make a grown man cry. I've had my own successes and a few failures, and learnt an awful lot along the way.
And that is the point, one of the incredible things about the EVE economy and the greater EVE universe is how it can prepare it's players for RL situations. It's not about how much ISK you make, how much you blow, how may battles you win and how many you lose, how many times you're CEO of a large corporation or how many times you're kicked out. All of these things good or bad provide people with experience that can be directly applied in RL later on.
So suck it up, dry your tears, forget the hard-earned you may have lost, forget the hours you may have put in fighting the good fight. Have a good look at what's gone down here and store it well, because it's just another EVE lesson that could make or save you real $$'s when you've logged out.
Oh and please, for the love of god stop looking for heroes and idols. EVE is just a game, nothing is what it seems, and the people doing better than you in game are probably the ones doing worse than you in RL. Just enjoy it, however deeply you're involved.
Take care of yourselves, and each other.

I totally agree.
Scandals are what they are. And **** happens. One just has to shrug it off, learn the lessons that are to be learned and move on.
People are too absorbed in pointing fingers at each other to really notice what went down for the most part.
If people want to cut out all the drama and get the facts and analysis on what went wrong, I suggest that they pick up a copy of EON #17. Everything relevant(I.e no drama) is in there, including about the future of banking in New Eden.

Funny... people wont learn lessons before they actually get screwed over.
The lesson everyone should take away is the constant ebank fanboi brigade constantly pumping up ebank on no more than a handful of gas bags claiming to know what due-dilligance is. And yes LaVista you are well within the top 10 of aforementioned gas bags.
None of them knew what they were doing which is why my isk stayed in my pocket. Hell I did business directly with Ricdic and wasn't screwed over. I guess he took a shine to me. Or did I structure the deal so he couldn't screw me over? Whatdayathink?
Lesson to take away from this. If so called market elite band together to promote their own interests... STAY AWAY. They are nothing more than a scam waiting to happen.
I hope someone complie a list of complete market losers. You know... those BoD who claim to have brains but proven otherwise with ebanks collapse.
Now that would be a enjoyable read.

I see that it didn't take long for someone to come around and make this another fingerpointing session. Second reply even, not bad. I guess that what to expect of posters who seems to come out of the woodwork when they can attack others.

So now EBANK customers will have to pay RL money to find out what they are still waiting for in-game? -- --

Wow. Just wow.
Talk about reading what you want to. Nowhere do I suggest that the "facts" are exclusive. In fact they can be found in this very forum between all the drama and fingerpointing.

Would that possibly be because of the article you wrote in there? I'm really sorry if this feels like yet more finger pointing, it's just that everyone seems to be trying to say "these are the real facts" (on all sides of the argument) - and yet the one thing this has proved is that no-one really knows the facts, least of all it would appear, those in charge.
I agree very much with the OP in that ultimately this is just another "excrement happens" situation and we do need to keep reminding ourselves this is just a game.

Applause for Leowen, true story. But I love guys like LaVista for stirring the drama over and over...
For now, carve out Ebank directors names on a huge Monument to rembember what went wrong, so we can learn and not make the same mistakes. Just like RL, never make the same mistakes over and over...

I agree with the OP.
People lose ships, they get scammed by contracts....the general response is "its pixels, get over it" "Dont fly what you can't afford to lose"
A bank gets in trouble..suddenly its not just pixels, and the ship mantra doesnt apply to investments.
I understand people are annoyed, but, it is just pixels, and dont invest what you cannot afford to lose.
If I logged into eve tomorrow, and all my stuff was gone, my markets had crashed and all my stock was worth 0.01isk...would I be annoyed? Sure, that is only human, we like to "win" or feel like we are doing well. Would annoyance last more than a day? I doubt it. If I have made X amount before, I can do it again. I play the game for more than the pixels, I play the game for the people in it, be they good or bad :)
Then again, I am a bit "meh" about pixel value, I have been known to randomly donate most of my assets to people, connections are more important than pixel value...even though it is nice to have a full wallet.

I've played EVE far too much, for too long, and freely intimated that in doing so my RL wasn't as rich as it should have been. Where's the moral superiority and pomposity in that? Dear oh dear oh dear.
You just wanted to get in there first with a fresh finger-pointing opportunity didn't you? Come on now, admit it...

well said Leowen. it's just a game.
after reading the 8 page 'criminal charges' thread and all the enthusiasm pro and con it displayed, i could not but wonder what effect this enthusiasm for 'justice to be done' would have on the RL mess that is taking place in the $$ markets :)
and it does open up possibilities. skill training for one; lawyers, judges, virtual tar and feathering, prison management, plea bargaining, grand jury manipulation etc etc. the list is endless.
the rules seem to be clear - don't fly it and don't invest in it if etc, etc.

This thread needs more Bob.
Forget the criminal charges, this is serious business!
Between the alleged State Raven "theft" and this, there is quite obviously something suspecticious (trademarked word btw) going on!
I demand an explanation

That was eloquent, articulate, and well thought out. If it wasn't for the reply's I wouldn't have known I was on the EVE-O forums.

In game scam, then it's one of the best ever and all involved should be congratulated as they've played a blinder. If blowing up big internet spaceships is not your thing then you get your buzz like this. It's very much a part of, and in the spirit of, a dark and dangerous space game that involves the devious machinations of corporations. The real tears are what makes this scam great and the game what it is, i.e. very cruel and sometimes very delicious if you come out on the winning side!
If this is a scam designed to generate RL income through RMT then it's a bit naughty as we all know RMT on a grand scale would wreck the game.
If it's just as Ray says it is then good luck to him, it would be remarkable to turn this situation around.

I'd like to start by blaming LVV.
Edit for typo. Damnit.
