Edited by: Nika Dekaia on 07/09/2009 20:58:56 Open the market -> search tab -> enter name of skill -> leftklick on skill -> rightklick on nearest/cheapest skill in market -> buy. Then fly there if not in station.
Please do the tutorial and the newbie missions. srsly.

Thanks for the reply. Did as you suggested, but no results.
As to the tutorial, I did it up to the point where I was told to go to a system and kill pirates. I went to the system, saw no pirates. Jumped around to a few of the many asteroid belts, and gave up.
Decided to just go mining instead. Worked out OK, bought a Minmatar Probe and additonal mining lasers. I enjoy the game, but it is very difficult to figure out the simplest things. This is my first time playing a computer game, so it's probably just me.

To find the pirates, you go to the mission area, which can be found by simply right clicking and selecting it in the list.
If you're going to mine, better off using a Burst over the Probe because it gets a bonus to mining lasers.
The tutorials actually are worth doing, but the learning curve is still a bit steep. If you ever have questions feel free to evemail me.

At the top left of the market screen you can select the range. You have it at 'station' currently - change it to 'region'. You can now see orders in your entire region; buy the skill from a sell order which (a) is one of the cheapest and (b) is not too many jumps away.

Be sure to select "Region" in the filter.

Did you accept the mission? Did you warp to the mission destination? (when in the system: rightklick in space and choose mission and warp there)

EVE isn't easy to learn, but it will pay out if you stick with it. This pretty much sums it up: Linkage

I accepted the mission and warped to the destination. I did not right click on empty space, since I hadn't been instructed to do so.
In any case, as per my OP, how do I buy the skill I mentioned. The tutorial is not suited to a beginner, yet I have done OK mining, but I'd like the skill upgrade I mentioned. How do I buy it ?

I did the 14 free day trial, then bought a month. I can't get an answer to even the simplest question. I'll use my month mining and then move on.

Hehe this game does require a certain amount of brainpower, perseverance and frustration to get started which is why I can never seem to get started.

You got answers to the simplest questions. It just seems you can't follow the answers. If you really can't figure out how to set the market to 'region' or search someone in P&P (hint: select "character" and type something in the input field) a complicated game like EVE might not be the best game for you.

Stop it with the emo. If you want to quit, quit. We don't care. Answering your questions, that's not a job, we don't get paid. We may or may not do it, fast or slow.
The reason the search doesn't work is because there is no Electronic Pulse Weapons 1, that skill does not exist. The skill you're looking for is Energy Pulse Weapons, and you can try a search for that or you can open the market categories and find it under the Engineering group on the market. Any nearby school should have it.
There is no 1 at the end of the skill. You buy the book for Energy Pulse Weapons, you right-click it and choose Train Now, and once it trains enough for it to reach level 1, you'll have that skill at level 1 (should take 15-30 minutes). If you want to train it to level 2, right-click it again in your character sheet (it will be under Engineering), and choose train now, again.
Hope that helps.

You got answers. Also if you do not do or understand the tutorials there is a lot more questions you will be asking anyway. They are very basic compared to the rest of the game as EVE is complex and takes time to learn, which is intended.
If your looking for a MMROPG and its your first time with games, then others are a lot easier. If you stick this game out though its the best there is, it just takes effort and patience which not everyone has.
You could try and join EVE University who take newcomers.
Finally remember we are all volunteer posters, we have no incentive to reply to anything so demanding answers will get aggressive replies.

Thank you all for your help. I thought I was posting in a newbie forum. Apparently my newbie question was only worth your derision.
I will continue to play, but will be sure not to involve myself with the forums. As to the avatar who told me to quit being so "emo", take a long walk on a short peer.
I asked a simple question about a skill and got treated like I had insulted someone's mother.
Good bye and good luck.

Everyone here gave you either an answer or helpful tips. What you interpret as 'derision' are just observations, observations which come down to this: your current attitude isn't the best one to have in EVE (consider changing it).

Um, I'm just going to point this out, since no one else has:
There is no skill called "electronic pulse weapons" in the game, which may be why you can't find it.
If you are talking about the skill for Smart Bombs, that's Energy Pulse Weapons and is found in the Engineering section of skills.
Go to the market, set the region from System/Station to "Region" and search for "energy pulse weapons". You'll find that.

Well to be fair it was all terrible advice since the skill never existed - he'd never have found it :)

Edited by: Jint Hikaru on 08/09/2009 09:18:47 To the OP. I hope you are still reading this....
If you want that skill so you can use SmartBombs... DONT!
A Smartbomb is does damage to anything in a wide area around your ship! If one of those things happens to be another player, another players cargo can or many other things... CONCORD (the police) will come and blow you up.
Eve is a very hard game to learn, and yes a lot of the posters on the forums can be agressive or unhelpful (even I am in some of my posts)... yes I know, its shocking. Stick with it, once you pick things up it can be a very rewarding game.
Now, you really should continue with the tutorial, it will teach you a lot. If you hit the 'Journal' button on the left side fo your screen, it should show you what active missions you have (there are tabs in the Journal window so check you are on the missions tab).
You can then rightclick on the mission in there and 'read details'
Check which system your mission is on and travel to that system. If you then right click in empty space you will get a dropdown and one of the options in that should be the name of your mission, point at that then select 'warp to'.
I really suggest you continue with the tutorial, asking questions that are answered in the tutorial usually get sarcastic replies on the forums, not to be nasty, just the same question is asked a whole lot. ------------------------ Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager / Explorer "I've got a couple of Strippers on my ship... and they just love to dance!" ------------------------ |

Well that was corrected after a few posts but that didn't help:).
I think the main issue was he hadn't done the tutorials and said they were no good. But we know if he had taken his time over them all his answers would have been given to him and more. Also they are simple tutorials since they were updated that take you through slowly step by step.

Some people are just very impatient I guess... which will mean he wont be playing Eve Online for more than a month. It takes a long time to learn even half the stuff in game - even the GMs and Devs dont know every mechanic and after 4/5 years of playing I'm still learning how to do stuff too.
So yeah, OP, calm down a bit because throwing a hissy fit on the forums isn't going to really do much other than either get your thread locked or for people to ignore you when you ask for help.
Set up a new alt and go through each of the tutorials again because they're worth doing. Ralara's banned again so this is my alt :p |

Since I read you had to correctly set your range to region for market search to get the desired results I just want to point out you don't have to set any range in order for a search to get you all results. Market search gives you all available orders for the whole region regardless of the set range. Range only affects browsing market orders using the tree view.

However its a very weak point since its his fault to ask for something that dont even exist. Most people dont even take a closer look because for skills that exist its just a matter of looking the market and buy the skil.
_ I like to play this game because it make my in-game actions and archievments to mean something in-game. |

most "begining" skills are availible from NPC's at university stations. Some skills are harder to find due to were you are aka tring to buy an off race ship skill. Some skills are bought with LP, so they're resold at a higher price.

I'm also available
From memory:
1. Click on the People and Places icon on the left. It is second from the top. 2. Select the People tab (or is it buddies? I forget). 3. There is a search box at the top, find it. 4. Next to the search box is a drop-down menu. Select "Character". 5. Type a name in the search box, and hit enter when done. 6. A box with possibilities pops up. 7. Right-click the appropriate name. I think one of the options is Send Mail.
If not exact, the above is pretty close. I'll verify when I get home.
