Edited by: Asuka Smith on 09/09/2009 23:52:07 Okay, first off we will need a Blaster fitting. I do not know of any particularly good ones, but I was thinking perhaps
[Taranis, Blasters] Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Damage Control II Nanofiber Internal Structure II
1MN MicroWarpdrive II J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
Light Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S Light Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S
Warrior II x2
Does 225 DPS, goes 4km/s, and it has full tackle (a must for blasters). If you can think of a better blaster fitting please post it, I want to compare the very pinnacle of Taranis blaster perfection.
WHAT IT CAN BEAT:
Mining Barges Industrials PVE fit battleships that are comedy fit
WHAT WILL KILL IT: (let me know if there is an exception
All PVP fit AFs minus the vengeance (because it has no tackle, but + the Sentinel) All PVP fit Cruisers. All PVP fit Battlecruisers All PVP fit Battleships
I am thinking it could only beat 1pt ships like haulers, or perhaps outgank another frigate in a duel although it would be a REALLY close call since it has practically no tank. I am thinking it would lose hard to anything with a 25m3 drone bay, or a web/scram.
Right now I am being told that I am an idiot for advocating 125mm Taranis fit and that instead a close-range blaster fit is the way to go. ANY SHIP is a contender for either category, so if this ship can take out a PVE fit then by all means post the ship and just put the caveat that it must be PVE fit to be defeated.
This is also assuming that the opponent is NOT specifically configured for the purpose of beating this Taranis.
I would really appreciate an affirmative or a negative on whether or not the blaster taranis is a horrible fail boat, it seems to me like it is but I have some friends who swear to god I am an idiot so I want to know.

Don't put nanos on taranises, it nerfs their structure which is their biggest buffer. Look up garmon's guide to solo pvp and read that for a good summary

a proper ranis has almost 4k ehp and does nearly 300 dps, It should have no trouble killing T1 frigates and most t1 dessies. Also it should stand a good chance against T1 cruisers. --- Ceptor Pilots HULL tank |

Blaster-ranis has one MASSIVE weakness: neuts.
Most properly fitted pvp cruisers will have neuts of some variety, making attacking them a risky proposition. General exceptions to this are the Caracal, which when AML fit will just splatter a 'ranis hilariously quickly, and a Thorax, which if it scrams and webs should also deal with the 'ranis pretty quickly.
Blaster 'ranis excels at killing other interceptors (watch out for Crusaders and Claws though - they can be buggers with a good pilot and fitting) and, in 0.0, slapping around haulers and mining ships. Don't expect it to solo anything that can pack scram/web and/or neuts.
This is why I started flying a Crusader for solo work, it's just plain safer. Putting the 'irate' into 'Pirate' |

I prefer the rails taranis over the blaster fit taranis. To OP - in my mind the mark of a good interceptor is one that can adequately handle dog fighting other inty's and pin down anything larger long enough for support to arrive. Expecting it to solo ishkur's and vagabonds is just unrealistic.
