So, me and a friend form a fleet, him in a hulk, me in a rifter. A can flipper flips his can;
1) Obviously the hulk can engagae 2) Can I engage him, since we are in the same fleet (different corps) 3) Can the flipper engage both me and the hulk, or just me. 4) If the flpper has friends (corp/fleet) can they engage one or both of us?
Thanks in advance

Short answer: joining a fleet has no effect on the rules of engagement.
1) Obviously 2) Nope, need to be in the same corp 3) Neither until you attack first, and then only the person who attacked, or anyone providing remote rep'ing to someone attacking him. 4) They can do nothing until you take something from the flipper's can, or you attack them. The later becomes possible if they remote assist the flipper.

IIRC, if someone flips your friend's can, the can flipper is flagged to your friend's corp (not npc corps). I don't think the rest of his corp can attack you but they can probably still support him with remote armor/shield/energy transfers and the like.

If you were both in the same player corp you would both gain the aggression for the theft (can flip). Being in different corps means only the can's original owner gets the aggression. Being in a fleet makes no difference to these rules.
The flipper can not engage any one until he has himself been engaged.
Once the fight begins no one else can join in directly as an aggressor, although you may help by remote repping your friend (same goes for the flippers corp mates).
If you start to remote rep your friend the flipper then gains aggro against you, and so only if he fires at you can you then join the fight.
Basically if they aren't red you can't engage them.
All this is assuming you are in highsec of course

When you're in a player corp and you jetison a can, the can belongs to your corp.
Anyone in your corp can take from the can. Anyone else who takes from the can is flagged as a thief to the corp as the can belonged to the corp. The exception here is if you (or any of your corp mates) fleet someone outside the corp, you're granting them permission to take from the can while they are in fleet. However because the can doesn't belong to the out-of-corp fleet member, a thief isn't flagged to them.
The can flipper can't legally engage you unless: 1) you engage him first, 2) you remote rep someone who's engaging him, or 3) you try to take the items back after they're stolen (ownership has transferred and you effectively get flagged for being a thief if you do).

Not 100% true. In this case, what Ki Tarra says is true. However when a member of a different corp but same fleet takes from other fleet-mates can, no aggression is achieved. This can lead to a moment or two of confusion when trying to spar with a buddy in a safe spot.

What you probably want to do is:
* Jettison a can from the Rifter near the Hulk * Hulk uses the Rifter's can for mining (allowed to use can as in same fleet) * Can flipper comes along and flips the can -- gets flagged to the Rifter and his corp * Hulk can stay completely out of the shooting
I promise nothingÖ. --CCP Prism X |
