So I have made about 60b in highsec through trading, and it is getting rather pointless to be making money only for its own sake. I have done very little in 0.0 other than flying around in a shuttle. So I want to ask, if I buy a mothership, fit lots of tank modules, and start flying around 0.0 ratting some belts, looking for officers, picking off small groups of PVPers, maybe running some epic missions, what are my chances of losing my ship? As it is immune to all forms of electronic warfare I could always just warp away, right? But in general I could stay moving at 75% speed (which isn't much) and aligned to a warp destination for easy warp out. I imagine if it looks very bad and the system is filling up with enemy ships I could log off in the middle of warp or something. So, how much of a risk am I taking by doing this solo without joining any corp and just warping to safety when I am outnumbered? I could save up some more for a titan but there doesn't seem to be a huge difference in the defensive capabilities of the two (25% more hp, same low power slots, same resistances). Maybe theres some shock value in the titan but that would be too devastating to lose.
I'd appreciate any analysis of the risk involved here. Thanks

As far as I know, a heavy inderdictor with an infinite point CAN point your ship, and hold you there. Warp disruption bubbles can also prevent you from warping away. Both are very prevalent in 0.0. I doubt you'd last long at all before being blown up, IMO. 0.0 is full of bored blobs that would love to come kill a mothership.
Your best bet surviving solo in 0.0 is probably a recon ship with a MWD and cloak. If it's solo pvp and ratting you want, I highly recommend looking at lowsec before 0.0.

Mom in 0.0 not in a big alliance parked at a pos or cloaked in a safe= a dead mom
invest in a t3 ship with some nice officer mods instead, at least you can dock that bird

rzr lost 3 moms while ratting in a belt + numerous support. Your 1 mom is as good as dead. Buy a T3 ship instead.

I'd just buy 2-3 characters on different accounts and be a d1ck empire wardeccing people. Linky legion and few guardians. And of course then claim how awesome I'm in solo pvp.
But hey it could be fun.

Remember the tips from the section on capital ships:
EVERYONE WANTS A CAPITAL SHIP KILL MAIL. Remember that, EVERYONE wants one. FREAKIN EVERYONE! If your grandmother that doesnĈt play Eve heard about there awesomeness, sheĈd want one too.
So you would make a lot of people happy if you carry out your plan.

Edited by: the plague on 14/09/2009 23:25:08 Assuming this isn't a blatant troll... I wish you could do it. EVE would be a more interesting game if it were possible to go really deep into space and operate alone like that. However, these guys are right. If you try to solo in 0.0 in a mothership, your ship is going to get targeted by a large blob very quickly once you are spotted and reported to the local powers that be. Motherships suck in their current form and definitely aren't worth the ISK vs. a regular carrier.
If you are really intent on doing this and no one can talk you out of it, then I suggest the following. Do your homework and scout out a good wormhole that hardly gets any traffic at all. Build a POS, bookmark a bunch of safe spots and learn everything there is to know about this wormhole and the people who go there. Then bring in your mothership and have fun. There's still a very good chance you'll eventually run into trouble and die, but you at least have some chance to survive for more than five minutes. If you're very careful, you might even actually profit for a while. But IMHO, it's extremely unlikely you will ever make enough profit to break even on that ship. It probably won't even be close.
Or, you can just send the Mothership to me and I'll see that it finds a good home.

Are you absolutely certain about that? I admit, I've not tried to fit a supercap into a WH so you may be right. But if so, how did they make this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvNwJUlWgno
I see at least one Nyx fighting sleepers in that video.

Sisi battle where the devs spawned sleepers into K-Space. Far as I know, supercapitals are well beyond the max mass of any wormhole class. regular capitals will fit in the higher class ones though. ------------------------------------------------- Search: Sky Grunthor |

Okay. Not that I would take a MS there anyway, but I suppose it would be nice to have the option. [shrug]
I did read something one of the devs wrote about even greater dangers lurking in WH space and "who knows" what me might see pop up in the future. I can only speculate he meant we might eventually see Sleeper capital ships, which makes me wonder if even more dangerous classes of WH might be added in an expansion.
Anyone want to take on a fleet of Sleeper caps?

The only way to get a super cap in a wh is to build it there. That said if you did build a mom in a class 6 wh you could make quite a bit a profit as you could solo everything me thinks

Edited by: Darthewok on 15/09/2009 07:38:22 i think u should sell the motherrship and buy 30,000 rifters to practice with
edit: sorry for the wrong math, i forgot to factor in the cost of the mods for the rifter. with t1 mods you can only buy 20,000 rifters with the 60bln. oh, on 2nd thoughts thats not so great, thats only 54 rifters a day.
BTW 100/10 if its a troll, 100/10 cool factor if its legit.

Just join an alliance that is already established in 0.0 and get their help to get your mothership out there if you want one that bad. You'll only want to use your mothership for fleet battles where you have help with you, cause a lone mothership will be announced on every intel and vent channel that there is in that region ASAP and you'll be reenacting the movie "The Hunt For Red October" within 5 minutes without backup.
Otherwise its better to either fly something cheap that you are totally fine losing everytime you fly, or something good at escaping gate camps like covert ops, interceptors, etc.
