I am currently salvaging so fast that I am spending more time trying to get loot in the cargo hold of my ship, and/or selecting/deselecting targets to salvage. I am wondering if there are any other ways to target other then ctl+click target or using overview target selection methods, to target?! And maybe some sort of auto loot toggle for cargo cans?!

Make a macro and tell me if this speed things up for ya and see if it all goes well.
Other than that - CTRL click - F1,2,3,4 for tractor beams and F5,6,7,8, for salvagers while your fly around is the best way. Along with also zooming out and watching what your flying too.
And lastly, you could slow yourself down by using one salvager per wreck, thats if you have more than 1 salvager on.

Fit more tractor beams than salvagers. Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

Hmmm. Well I basically do what you've suggested [second poster], and it does help but still fast. Thanks for the module shortcut activation/deactivation suggestion that'd probably help considerably. Wasn't there some auto loot feature in game in past game versions?!

anyways its a unusual situation. I've tried a new salvage reconfiguration from the solo eight high slot (destroyer) type setup and went with a two ship setup configuration. I haven't timed both to see how fast either configuration runs. That is whether two salvage, tractor destoryers or this other configuration runs faster, is my best guess. I was trying to think of better ways to get the salvage done quicker (skills and fits aside). One person running two salvagers is a bit tricky at times but still produces faster salvage tackle then one alone, and I like the idea of this other configuration

Edited by: Darksniperr on 15/09/2009 05:51:02 Edited by: Darksniperr on 15/09/2009 05:49:47 I just run a 4 Tractor Beam 4 Salvage Destroyer. I just fit a MWD and try to BM the room where I can warp in and get the majority of the wrecks without even needing to move.
For loot (If its a missions with to much loot for my destroyer's cargo hold; which is most of the time in level 4s.) I place the loot into a container and just haul it around with me and move all the loot into it as I salvage the wreaks. Then just keep a hauler at the mission station and pickup the 1k+ M^3 of loot. Saves time from trying to sort out what is good/bad and the bad stuff you can refine later for Minerals and more isk.
*Just make sure to get good bookmarks before you warp away to get the hauler...

Edited by: Mara Rinn on 15/09/2009 05:53:14 In the past I have run a salvage destroyer + Exequror pair - Exequror is fitted with tractor beams, keep range 500m to the salvage destroyer. The destroyer just targets, tractors, salvages.
The exequror only shows cargo containers on overview. Select them, tractor them, come back every now and then to open all cargo containers, drag loot to cargo hold, target new containers, activate tractors.
Doing all the salvage+looting using one ship is relatively easy if you jettison the first thing you get into your hold, close your hold, leave the loot can open and simply drag stuff from the wrecks to the loot can. The slow part for me has always been picking the inactive tractor beam out of the bank of five.
These days though, I mostly run missions in the area around Dodixie. Salvaging is not a problem I have to deal with anymore.

I use a 5 Tractor, 3 Salvager setup on my L4 salvager. With it's 2000m3 cargobay, 800m/s speed (YT-8) and tackle rigs I seem to have a balanced fitting, as it disposes of the wrecks the moment I get into range of the next set of wrecks.

That L4 is a nice support vessel as well. Although I couldn't get as many active targets as with the destroyer, but the bonus to tractor range and velocities makes things run a lot faster. I still like the destroyer in the mix for the number of active targets that I can have.

I find using an Orca to tractor the whole room and loot is pretty good, I used to use the Destoyer and tractor around a loot can. Now I just create a big salvage ball with the Orca, dock, Salvage like a demon with a 8 x salvager Destroyer.
All good

Ctrl-clicking is too slow. You still have to click on every piece of loot.
Try opening the wreck, moving your mouse over the window, pressing Ctrl-A, then dragging the contents to your cargo.
I find it helpful to move the loot window where it's natural to get to, as well has having the cargo bay open and quite large so it's a big target for the drag-and-drop.
Doing this I can salvage/loot very quickly... and I have all the obstacles you have, plus my ship is moving at 1800 m/s so I have to deal with not overshooting the wreck. Usually when I intend to loot I start my salvagers at 6km, fall into a very tight orbit, and loot the wreck just as the salvagers make it vanish. ---- Suddenly Ninjas Blog: My Loot, Your Tears
