A month or so ago, I had 7+ standing with Am/Cal and sub zero with Gal/Min.
So I flew on down and started boosting my low standings. I'm now 7+ with Gal/Min and approaching 0 with the other two. I have been careful not to take missions that will annoy the opposite factions, but nonetheless, here I am. Just running marketing agents and manufacturing agents you still lose standing with the storyline missions.
So what I'm wondering is how does one go about keeping faction standing for the four major factions reasonably high? Say in the 6 to 8 range.
Is there a system for this?
Or do you just have to live with always having low standings with someone?

its the effect of storyline missions. you gain standing for each one you do, and also with that factions friends list as well. the flip side is you also lose standings with their disliked list.

Is there any way to have positive standings with all factions?
What about declining storyline missions?

Je'Nann, thank you for spending your precious time to state the obvious
Kaylee, I see you have a deep understanding of the standings mechanic
Regis, a good solution as far as it goes, unfortunately you seem to have missed the part in my op where I actually stated that I want faction standings, thus storylines are mandatory. And, since you lose with one to gain with another, your solution is... er... incomplete
Is there anyone on this forum with the tiniest talent at reading comprehension that can answer some of the questions I asked in the OP?

This thread may answer your question.

It requires some selective missioning. I don't think you're meant to have high standings with everyone.

From the site Conrad Lionheart. Talk about insane things we have to do to make factions like us. I'm just trying to get all the main factions up to 0 and a little more so I can travel through empire space at will out being too close to -5 standing or opps I forgot, they don't like me .

Raising all four factions
We find that 4 factions need to be used to do this optimally, Gallente, Caldari, SSoE and Ammatarr with missions in a ratio of 21.6 : 30.9 : 38.0 : 9.5. This will result in standings of 4.95 for the 4 main factions. It is possible to actually work out the exact answer to this (most of these answers use numerical methods) by solving a set of four non-linear simultaneous equations (Mathematica FTW) which turns out to be:
(37220/1869) - (20/1869)*(61741)^0.5 - 0.5*((74964800/3493161) - (2964800/3493161)*(61741)^0.5)^0.5
~ 14.9517 (standing from 0 to 20 so = 4.9517) so we have some confidence in the validity of our numerical method. (yes I am a real maths geek!)
Without using SSoE the best you can do is a standing of 4.34 for the 4 main factions by running missions for Gallente, Caldari, Minmitar and Ammatar in a ratio of 8.5 : 8.8 : 34.4 : 48.3. (Amarr unsurprisingly seem to be the worst faction to run missions for by this measure, nice subtle whack with the nerf bat?)

You are brilliant. - - - -- - - - -- - - - -- - - - Little known fact: 95% of DS's signatures have nothing to do with EVE. |

Thanks Conrad, that is exactly what I was looking for :)
One last question.
Is there a list somewhere of what stations the storyline agents are parked in?
Why I ask is that if I'm going to try for SOE storylines, I need to be running missions close by an SOE corp station that has a storyline agent in it.

Find the corporation you want, select it.
Select 'Yes' under Storyline Agent.
