Our corp did a few testing yesterday and I could't summarize our experiences better than Liang Nuren:
Originally by: Liang Nuren It seems to me that this thread is full of people that haven't actually logged in and tried to do anything with the new AFs. IMO they're not all that terribly much more effective than they were: - Neuts still mess their day up (2 med neuts is unbelievably bad - even cap boosted) - The damage output is the same - The same weak tank - Still weak at range - Still dies to a properly fitted HAC/BC - Etc.
IMO, the AB speed bonus is interesting, but not game changing for PVP. Is this a push towards what you're going for with "speedboat" missions?
-Liang
Even without neuts, a TP+webed AF (Jag vs. Sacri) going down pretty fast, but I like the new bonus anyway.

Originally by: M Blanc ...Get real; you've spent the last few months proclaiming all AB-fit frigates to be lolfits and comedy killmails because they're slower than MWDing cruisers, so it's absurd to turn around and say that an increase in speed to match those cruisers will make them overpowered.
Everlasting state of discontent is what we see here. Good point M Blanc.
Aft AFs are still only frigates. Rel. slugish and overpriced frigates btw. On Sisi they die to competent pilots in Thrashers, Caracals, Arbitrators and all that dirty cheap T1 junk out there.

You need to make the Assault Frigate bonus not apply to oversized afterburners.
Hi,
oversized afterburners are not a real issue. Just take a look on agility and acceleration while using an 10mn aft. On paper, it looks impressive but while doing actual combat, raw speed isn't enough. They may of course be some situations when a bonused 10mn is quite usefull, but generaly it isn't.
Btw. I'm quite happy to see so so many ppl here interessted in frigate combat :-)

Edited by: Zhula Guixgrixks on 09/10/2009 12:58:07 Variety among AFs.
Slot layout & variety : Yes we need it. Thats why I'm not in favour of similar slot layout for all AFs.
Example: Retribution. Instead of giving it an extra mid, I would rather see it armed with 5 lasers. This is real variety, not "Every frigate needs tackle." Btw. we already have a lot of good tackling AFs (and other frigates) with 3-4 med slot layout.
4th bonus & variety : Although I would like to see the aft-bonus on TQ, an individual 4th bonus can also greatly enhance variety among AFs. To solve it without long debates etc., CCP could just "copy" 1 missing HAC bonus to adequate AFs. E.g Jag = speed, Vegance = RoF etc.

Originally by: Cpt Branko ... Stop being daft. A two-midslot Retribution is in no way similar to a Vengeance, and last I heard nobody said "make Retribution 3/4 slot layout with roflkets".
Yes yes, good points as ever cpt. Good to see somebody is playing advocatus diaboli on my statements :-)
Ok, than let's overdo a little bit..What about a (still) 1-medslot Retribution but with 3 turrets and some kind of marauder bonus. This would generate a viable gang dps, with frigate speed, but still (very) vunerable to neuts. Still no solo pwnage boat.
