Can't help it. Once I destroyed my first pirate (no podding though) I was hooked. So now I get the urge to be an anti-pirate (just ain't feelin' the dark side).
I was in my Vampire 'Phoon Of Death (4 heavy nos, 4 cruise launchers, and armor-tanked) in a 0.1 system, when a Raven pirate shows up about 30km from me. I don't hesitate, I MWD to with nos range, turn 'em on, turn on my armor hardeners and large armor repairer, and I start flinging cruise missles at the pirate like I'm possessed. And I forgot the rest of my drones so I could only launch 5 of them (Ogres).
The hardeners were halving the damage and I was sucking power away from the Raven. But you know it will take an helluva alot of power drain to cripple a Raven. So we basically are orbiting each other at 15km and little dots of death are raining down on me. I'm not doing bad myself. Now I'm thinking to myself, why didn't I fit a rocket launcher with defenders. But no since crying over spilled milk. The fella in the raven had some uber skills in the torpedo/missle department cause those suckas were hitting at 220+ a pop with hardeners (I think since I was so busy sweating it out). But I don't care. I'm going to out-Raven this Raven and that's it. But in the end, yours truly lost. It would have help if my thermal hardener was on autorepeat.
Well the pirate locks my pod and just happen to warp away before this pretty orange torpedo hits me. The pirate initiates convo tells me that I'm one crazy mofo. Which I laugh and tell him that you know I had you concerned with the four Nos. He laughs and says that some of we empire guys are nuttier than 0.0 PvP'ers. *Big smile* from me. We exchange pleasantries and I get a "way to be cool about things" and I just say "Love this game. :)"
Ahh... the rush of watching your BS explode. I'll be back.

Next time if you know you`ll be facing a raven try this on your phoon: 3x800mm`s,3heavynos,2 large smartbombs.
Stagger the smartbombs to 4sec intervals, get close(4-5km max) and start laughing as all his torps go pop without even touching you
It will take sometime to kill him with just 3 guns and 2 SB`s but it will happen. Even if he switches to cruisemissiles you`ll be killing at least 50% of them so no worries.

Edited by: Tariq Steel on 22/10/2004 12:57:10 Once I decided that a BS is replaceable, and not think of it as a god-like vessel to be worshiped, I was able to take risks with it (in regards to PvP). My BS is used strictly for battle (I mine in cruisers). So I lost my 'phoon. Oh well. Gives me something to in order to make a new one.
And you have to have spirit to battle another human player.
ElCoCo, I'm definately going to try that setup. Maybe test it with my corp mates.

I dunno about that setup. Large smartbombs eat massive amounts of cap, and most ravens will double-nos you back. If the raven switches to cruise missiles and staggers them, I think they'll probably eat you up, just because of a lack of cap to properly tank.
I might be wrong, thats just how I think it would go. I guess if you used ECM to jam him and forced him to use FoF you could drain him pretty effectively and kill him. Would be one hell of a specialized setup though. -------------------------------------------- CONCORD: Kneecapping Pilots for Misdemeanors Since 2003 |

The raven will prolly have torps fitted at first. By the time he realises he`s doing nadda he has to stop his weapons...reload... start firing. You gain a good 30secs + advantage like that... add to that the fact that he`ll want to stagger the missiles... that`s precious seconds.
The 3 nosferatus you have pretty much sustain the smartbombs and you don`t sacrifice anything for your cap recharge. You shouldn`t have cap trouble until you kill him (even if he`s using the usual 2 nos on you).
With a 4-5 km range from him the large SB`s let no torpedo pass (even if he staggers them) and take out more than 1/2 of his cruisemissiles because they have not much time to accelerate towards you.
Your only fear is him running a cap injector but you can do that too
A typicaly setup raven pilot will most likely die to that, and I`m sure you`ll find even more setups that could do it. I just posted 1 idea here hehe

Well i cant say im a veteran PvPer but my best experience was when i attacked a dominix in an armor tanked maller. He had a mix of med/heavy drones so i started killing them, he was putting out more. His friend in breacher came and died really fast. I was really damaged had to warp out so i warp out and then back in just to get full armor. He puts out some med drones again so i kill them and suddenly a smile comes in my face. No more drones for my friend over there so i start killing his shields but he had hardners and shield booster. Armor is starting to get damaged and when he's at about 50% armor the unpleasant warp out comes. Our friend had some stabilizers and i was left with adrenaline hitting RED.
Oh well quite an experience

Nice read
I remember my 1st battleship kill in a frigate group way back when I was just a newbie in TLBC He just hit structure when the rest of his fleet warped in(he was obviously bait for us so we couldnt jump into FD if we attacked him) and we stayed there just to get the kill! I still remember Nightfang screaming in chat "STAY HERE! KILL HIM!!" We lost a few friggies that night alright hehe but the feeling of victory that day was incredible
It was the 1st time I had ever done somethin close to that and I must say I felt like my heart was about to rip itself apart in my chest ---------------------
I'm the guy with the sleepy look...
