Dear GMs,
It would be great to have ability to send a bookmark by eve-mail. I think it is normal to inform another pilot or even fleet about coordinates of the exact place in the space. I do not see any danger for game structure, but only pleasant for players if such ability is added.
For example, scout will not need to wait for the fleet arrival. He just need to bookmark the place and submit it to Fleet or to commander

Edited by: Raa Chura on 16/09/2009 08:57:12 I've been gving this a lot of thought recently particularly because I have advanced scouts for locating people in wormholes and nothing is worse than finding a target in a wormhole and having to jump back through the WH to get them in position, then jump back through.
Edit to clean up the idea: Premise of idea: Add skills to prevent BM transfers from being abused Requirement: Add skills for transferring and receiving bookmarks. Transfer Skill: Allowes additional distance per lvl for transferring bookmarks Receive Skill: Increases integrity of received bookmark per lvl Pilots must be in fleet together.
If you add the skills to degrade remotely traded BM, it will prevent this from being overly abused and it will also still make physical BM trading required for BM's that need to be accurate. This gives more covert capability to recon pilots. Raa Chura "You can't read loss, you can only feel it.." |

A bookmark is already an exchangeable item.
The only thing a scout has to do is find a target / by using probes. Bookmark the location and putting it in his cargo hull. This can be done several times if necessary. The scout then flies back to the fleet and drops of a container containing the bookmarks to the location. Every fleet member in need of the location can take a bookmark from the container.
There is no need for sending bookmarks over EVE-mail or Chat-channels.

So, you think it is acceptable IN THE FUTURE to give space coordinates "written on a piece of paper" by dropping it in the container. So, we have wonderful communication means (communication across the Universe without time delay). However, we can not submit position coordinates as information but only as an item. Moreover we agrees to to make hundreds bookmarks of the same position (for example) as we can not copy it. Nice future

It is impossible to send bookmarks over EVE-mail or Chat-channels because it makes the game better for everyone.
Imagine what would happen if every location can be probed and broadcasted in real time.
That would mean that you will no longer be able to run missions on your own and that there will be fleets of advanced players and noobs in your mission aria all the time.

Edited by: Buran Gromazekin on 16/09/2009 13:27:15 Such ability could be restricted by skills or something. May be some special skill to adjast coordinates definition accuracy ability for each player. But it shoud be possible to do at least.
Edit You are not in safe anyway. You can be scanned by other player. Ninja-salvaging is the problem on its own.

Its normal that you have GPS, and you can send your coordinates by SMS, MMS or just e-mail. Why in game wich made "to be better word to live in" you dont have same ability.
Why you can find character with NPC agent location service, but in RL not all peoples can be found in such way.
Sign, give us ability to send coordinates as link in eve-mails/chats.

In addition to the above:
It is absolutely necessary to add "aline to" feature for bookmark

/sign for both align (too boring to smash Warp To, and then hit Ctrl+Space, and then adjusting speed) and free linking
As for the skills, I don't think they are needed. For those pessimistic "every location can be probed". It can already be probed. And for the real time transmitting – wait, why we have such stuff like TeamSpeak or EVE Voice? I can tell that that bookmark is lying in a can near the third planet. Do you think that 30 seconds delay before an inty warps to can which was dropped by a covops, and takes that bookmark, are fatal and if you had them, you could warp out? But the covops can scan you again and then inty won't take any bookmarks, he'll warp to his cloaked buddy and voila.

Edited by: Raa Chura on 17/09/2009 04:39:48 I did mention in my previous reply about making it skill dependant. As for the comment about dropping bookmarks in cans, again that completely screws with covert recon on target in locations where you don't want to uncloak. Well,
How often GM's reads this forum? Do i have any chance to be informed my suggestion is noticed by GM's?
I understand, "bookmark as link" is much more difficult to add or even to consider such possibility then "align to" feature for bookmarks. So, may be "align to" could be considered at least. A?

Align to bookmark - Yes, so obvious that I still can't believe it's not already a feature.
Transmit Bookmark - yes, great idea, useful tool, and way better than the nonsense of the 'message in a bottle', that went out with the carrier pigeon tbh.

i would settle for broadcast bookmark to fleet. that way it stops the bookmark being spammed to say the whole of jita and would allow all fleet member instant access to any fleet bookmarks.
this would also aid people in whs etc to give corpies the location of their entry whs to their wh pos's. which currently you have to risk a wh collapse to go dock and contract a bookmark to someone. with the new no bookmarks in contracts feature to be comming next patch this would help greatly.

i like this idea but i would like it to be able to be emailed and it would be so much more usefull than ninja salvagers and people stealling your stuff in your mission and i also like the idea of broadcasting the bookmark in fleet but that doesnt make a differnce maybe not link in chats but linking in mail is acceptable for me.

Bookmarks, oh bookmarks. This whole system needs some work. There are many ways to possibly improve the bookmark system and not just for player convince but for server performance (possibly anyways). The following is my thoughts on bookmarks in general:
- The ability to organize bookmarks and not lose that information when you format/lose HDD to failure/what ever reason for losing local settings
- Sharing bookmarks, YES. Linking a bookmark in chat/mail/whatever and being able to save it would be great.
- A shared pool of bookmarks for corp/alliance would be GREAT. Have roles to manage them and such but storing in the database one set of bookmarks for an alliance wide jump bridge network instead a set for ever character should help... in theory but I guess the same number of characters are making the requests for those bookmarks so maybe that not help. Still be nice to have though.
- Align to would be great, yes I agree.
- Show bookmarks on overview? Yes please.
- Along the lines of the third point, a shared pool of bookmarks, a temporary pool of bookmarks for fleets that maybe just goes away when the fleet no longer exists. Would help keep bookmarks down. I know I add bookmarks for POS warpins and such and forget/just don't wanna spend the time to delete them until a few months later. Being able to just right click on a book mark as a squad/wing/fleet commander and share it with the fleet would be cool. Give people the scout role in a fleet and they have the ability to add bookmarks to a fleets shared bookmark collection.
Just some random ideas along with the whole bookmarks thing. But back to the op's post:
