So yesterday on the computer, sitting in old faithful chair of mine, I go to lean back and BAM! The left arm and back snap off and I'm forced to do something quick to keep from falling, I twist my side and put my left arm on the ground to keep me up. I didn't think much of it other than a shock of that happening (It was really all reflexes to catch myself, and not in a show-offy kinda way). But today my backs been hurtings non-stop, I took advil but that wore off. It seems that the very base of my spine on the right side to the middle, my bad really hurts, with a slight burning with it feeling like it bruised really bad.
I'm not sure of exactly what I should do, should I go ahead and see a doctor about it? Or give it a few more days and some medicine to see it through? ---- My Music

Off hand with the mechanism you are describing and the burning sensation I would say that it sounds like a issue with one of your disks. That being said I would not expect that type of injury in someone say younger then 40.
A few things that me help
- ice - lay on your back with your knees bent and slightly roll them right to left. - start stretching you hamstrings

EDIT: Give it a few days. That being said it may get worse before it gets better. If it gets seriously worse though I would go see a doctor and get into see an orthopedic doctor asap.

16, I've taken preety terrible care of my posture so I kind of saw it coming, I leaned back to watch a video in comfort when it happened, the burning may be slight sweat for no air conditioning. ---- My Music

At 16 I would seriously doubt it would be an issue with one of your disks but it is not out of the realm of possibility.
So do what I said above and give it a few days before you escalate things.
With the hamstring stretch, lay on your back and use a rope or a towel to wrap around your foot and then pull your leg up till you take as much stretch you can handle and hold for 20 seconds (preferably 30 seconds) and then do on both sides. Do this as many times as you can do during the day.
Another stretch you could do is to sit in a chair and cross your leg over the other one like a man does. Then grab that leg and pull your shin to your chest. This should cause a stretching sensation along the upper thigh up into your outer buttocks.
I have found that a lot of low back issues in younger populations come from overly tight hip extensors and those get very tight if you sit a lot. So yes many people in the worlds population could relieve much of there low back discomfort with hip extensor stretching.

If you are only 16 and your typical day is sitting at the computer, you probably strained (tore the fibers of) your back muscle (erector spinae). It is a muscle you never use unless you do specific sports or train, and you had to use it to break your fall in a moment of shock. I would wager its just a strain, but if it actually is a herniated disc, you won't really make it worse by waiting; only make the pain last longer.
Also you shouldn't be asking the EVE-O forum members.

Yep you do not use the erector spinea at all unless you play specific sports

So yes, unless he actually went to a doctor there is a good possibility that this was the best place to ask his question

Probably just a muscle spasm. For a quick fix, simply roll around in a bathtub full of deadly deadly scorpions.

Really I don't mind, I used to play tons of Football, soccer, and ran around a lot, eve though I was overweight I was slightly active, but I really don't have that same opportunity now. And as for asking the Eve O forums, I trust it to give me some help, if not at least just a few good laughs like the post above me.

If you really had seriously damaged your back, you would damn well know about it, believe me. You got a little strain, take some anti-inflammatory painkillers, get out your chair and do some ****ing exercise.

That's not because it's an age related injury, it's because the young haven't yet learnt that the first thing you do with a back injury is get down the Doctors, exaggerate the pain, and get some fun painkillers and a long sick note!

I see where you are going but very few, if any, orthopedic doctors are going to give some kid heavy duty pain killers for a "supposed" blown disk. They will cover their bases before they do that. And yes disk herniation is usually a degenerative issue thus in most cases you will not see it in the younger populations. That being siad I have worked with three 20 something basketball players and 2 very large football players that have had to have surgery on their disks.

bestofworst, never ask for medical advice on an internet spaceships forum.. seriously, people are gonna give you stupid answers like above.
I had a possibly similar occurrence actually, (seems to be nearly the same as what your describing at least..) really all that I can say is that you should put some ice on it, and try not to use your back too much - pick stuff up with your legs, not your back, (dont bend over, kneel down..) if it persists, go see a doctor..

go see a chiropractor, doctor will likely tell you to rest which is not good advice
also put ice on it and dont use deep heat initially as that may just sieze everything up _ _ _

Don't listen to the rest of the people in this thread, they are leading you astray. Clearly you just need to break the right arm of the chair and catch yourself in the same way. This will negate the left arm breaking and falling stuff.
