Bellum Eternus Gallente Death of Virtue MeatSausage EXPRESS	Posted - 2009.09.17 16:30:00 - [1] How hard is it? How hard is it to make space ships that people ENJOY LOOKING AT? The new faction ship paintjobs: Armageddon Navy Issue Megathron Navy Issue Vindicator Dominix Navy Issue Scorpion Navy Issue Rattlesnake Typhoon Fleet Issue The Vindicator and Rattlesnake aren't that bad. The Vindi has that subdued black camo and it works ok. Nothing spectacular that screams 'OMG Expensive Ship!' but it's not horribly ugly either. Same goes for the Rattlesnake. I kind of like the desert tan thing it has going on. The Navy Mega/Dominix are just... yuck. Baby poop green camo? Really? Why couldn't you just leave the Navy Mega black like it was? Everybody loved it. The more black and the more shiny the new ships are, the better everyone will like them. True story. The Navy Scorpion- why brown? And why that shade of brown? It muddles the shape of the ship and turns it into a brown blob. The edges of the various substructures get lost in the muddy low contrast color scheme. Make it something high contrast and dramatic, like silver/gloss black tiger stripe camo or something. Is that not 'Caldari' enough? Then how about a navy blue/charcoal grey camo color scheme? Anything but brown. The Typhoon Fleet Issue- here I think that a very dark brown on black camo pattern with large shapes (exactly what isn't currently on the ship with it's small dense shapes) would work well on the Phoon. Thats if the lights were made a bright orange to offset the darkness of the rest of the shape. Yeah, brown and cylindrical looks like a turd, but the ship is turd shaped, what are you gonna do? The Armageddon Navy Issue- probably the least worst of all of the new color schemes, but that doesn't make it good just because all the rest suck. I think that a solid gloss black paint job, just like the EOM ships would look spectacular, but in order to set them apart from the EOM NPCs the ship needs to have bright yellow lights instead of blue. As usual, I'm open to suggestions as far as what everyone else thinks about these new colors and possible different color schemes for the various ships. Come on people, CCP got rid of the Gallente Baby Blue after we complained about it enough. We can get them to change this as well. Show your support! -- Bellum Eternus Inveniam viam aut faciam. I loved the black/white thing going like on the Navy Megathron, have they changed that to green too? Seriously though, were the art department on crack they thought up that paint job for the mega? Look at the domi, they were lazy the patten is symmetrical on both sides.

The Armageddon looks the best imo but still the artcrew were lazy. Just paint that thingy black and hop ... we have a new ship. Make em look 'dangerous with restraint' instead of this 'omg I'm a rebel 14 year old camo' fake.

And tbh it is important, so i hope CCP's art department is taking eve communities opinion seriously. Most of us dont know 'art' but we know what we like. Doesn't need to be fluorescent yellow, but something more lively and less tree coloured be nice. The ships are in space not on the ground in some wood.

For a short amount of time the Mega was a weird sort of burnt orange and charcoal color for a while before it went to TQ. The Kronos is close to being yellow/grey, but it's more of a crummy brass color. Not really gold, not really yellow. I don't understand why they need to have this pattern covering the ENTIRE ship, any pattern covering that large a surface would look hideous. Break it up with some bare panels in a dark metal colour and we have a winner, right now the patterns just look slapped on and don't even look like they are meant to be there! Ships as valuable as these need to make people jealous, if I saw someone flying that megathron I'd just laugh at them. Don't even get me started on the typhoon, it just looks like the pilot hasn't had it washed in awhile. Armageddon is hawt though.

OK so a navy ship probably would be battleship grey anyway cus its cheap - but the pirate ships could quite easily be painted in any random color combination that was cool, and would more than likely have some dodgy looking evil grafix on the hull somewhere (I know I would if it were my ship IRL)

I already gave up on the Navy Raven when it lost it's black color, now I'm going to have to give up on other ships I would otherwise love to fly... Please get rid of the camo CCP!!! P.S. If you absolutely have to camo some ships at least leave them in the realm of Caldari, the military race. Leave the camo out of Gallente, Mini, Amarr ships at least, for the love of god!

I guess brass and mahagony lacks the class of china toy camo. And now Mega. Oh well and Dominix and Phoon but some things never get better. Also, while Geddon scheme looks good as a pride of a golden fleet... except the poor guys ran out of gold for their very own flagships. Scorpion loks fine... very in tune with the rest of minmatar ships. TBH as I am getting cynical and with T3 and with the above mentioned vomited over Vexor I gave up on the visual side of EvE. T3 is classic example of lot of work that got nowhere due to lack of inspiration and this is just another step down. Meh, just ranting, I really hardly care any more. Thanks for pictures.

Caldari's have always been hideous, especially Lai Dai's puke camo treatment. Gallente now getting the same treatment for most of their ships, moar ugly camouflage. Plus the Amarr navy ships somehow end up a million miles from resembling something golden by becoming black. The thing is, even though camouflage is a dumb concept in space, they could just about pull it off if they used a reasonably nice style to do it with. Heck they just about pulled off a reasonable looking camo ship with the navy raven. Instead though most the ships end up looking like they've been paintballed by fluorescant ammo or they ran over a Predator alien.

I think the Navy Mega would look even better if it were gloss black on gloss black, the Dominix would look fine with gloss black/dark flat charcoal grey, I think the Rattlesnake needs to be a higher contrast black/white 'dazzle' style camo color while the Navy Scorp would look good in a dark blue on blue tigerstripe camo. I think all the Minmatar Fleet ships should get a very dark burnt orange base color (read: super dark brown with an orange tint to it) and then some dark grey/black camo patterns over that. The Navy Geddon would look great just all black, but barring that, if it were something like 50% gloss black in spots and then 50% bright chrome it would look really good as well. -- Bellum Eternus Inveniam viam aut faciam. If that isn't an option then change the colors of the camo prints to something more effective for space, navy blues with greys or blacks and greys (Urban Camo) as the would blend in better with the native/caldari space background and do a better job of breaking up the shape of the ship. As it is now Jungle Camo just makes the ships stand out like a sore thumb. Make the camo, whatever the color, assymetrical particularly on the Navy Domi. Give us the blood splatters back on the Blood Raider ships. The Amarr lineup is meh, needs more gold but not hideous to look at.

The difference this time is that there is no asymmetric element of the Dominix at all - if you're going to be lazy, you had better make sure you can AFFORD to be lazy. What makes the mirrorcamo really funny is that the Vexor and Diemost's camo is actually done properly. They cared at one point ... ----
