Very inexperienced with buy orders but they seem straightforward enough, anyway...
I've had the highest buying price in a region on an item for several days. I placed the order as region wide. However in the market data for the past few days i'm showing the item being sold to lower NPC buy orders in this region.
Any reason for this? When I mouseover the buy order in my Orders page it shows
- Item name - Quantity of order - Station order was placed in -Region meaning it is a region wide order? - 1 (i assume this is minimum units per sell) - Days remaining on order
So if that's correct then it's a regionwide order. Why would items be sold at a lower price than the highest available? Is there a tradeskill I need to make this actually regionwide?

Are the items definitely being sold to the NPC bids, rather than being sold to you at the NPC bid prices? Either way, in the Market History data, the resulting data would look like what you are describing.
Looks like you've set your order correctly. No additional skills should be necessary. á á

When I click market data for the item in question in the region I see sales of this item every day for the past week. All of them sold for lower than my listed buying price. Most are at the standard NPC buy amount for the item with a few even below that since they were presumably sold at stations with no NPC buy orders.
I "tested" my buy order out by flying 5 jumps away from the originating station and when I checked market data mine was always the best deal and it was also highlighted green.
Not much else I can do but wait and see if this continues.

Make sure -all- of your filters are off.

Between market data/history and the "My Orders" I don't see any options for filtering. I do appreciate any attempt at help though.

Originally by: Alberico DeSandre Between market data/history and the "My Orders" I don't see any options for filtering. I'm very inexperienced with market orders of any kind unfortunately.
Across the Market window, there should be several tabs, starting from Details at the left; settings should be at the right and will include filtering settings, but if you didn't know how to find those, it may be unlikely that you've changed any.
This one's pretty basic, but you did say 'very inexperienced'... In your Wallet, the Transactions tab will list everything that youv'e bought and sold on the Market. Have you confirmed there that it isn't you buying those items at NPC bid prices (which is possible if people choose to sell them so cheap)? á á

Well, it's continuing.
I placed a second buy order in the region just to test further and because I was going to need more of the item anyway. So my two buy orders are the top two buy orders for the item in the region.
Yet the past 40 of these items have moved at a lower price. No one places sell orders for these in the region and if they did I would just buy them.
My market filters are at the default settings; displaying orders in all security systems. This is starting to drive me nuts. When I get back from work i'll post a new regionwide order in a different station and system to see if that has any impact.

I wonder if the market history data always contains the NPC buy orders for these items, even if none are actually sold at that price.

I'm not sure how your'e gathering your data, but it all sounds very odd.
Only reason I can think of for things being sold to others below your price would be if you have set a minimum quantity above 1 on your buy order.

Edited by: Alberico DeSandre on 20/09/2009 21:15:53 Alright, i've figured it out. I was misreading the DATE on the Price History table. I was looking at the data from 30 days ago. My table was set to show the most recent info at the BOTTOM of the table. I assumed the most recent would be at the top!
This clears things up completely. Thanks all for the attempt at assistance!

I have a completely opposite phenomenon going with one of my buy orders. I have a buying order that is 5 isk lower than the highest bidder in the same station but I still get my stuff sold. He has huge quantities on his buy order so it can't be that it runs out every now and then. I'm not getting large quantities sold, only a hundred or so ores at the time but I get some sold every hour. Meh, I'm not complaining but I think it's strange.

Also, sort your market detail screen by price. For sell orders, lowest price should be on top. For buy orders, highest price should be on top. This should be the default view, in my opinion.
If you do this sort there is no reason to fly around to make sure your order is the highest. If the order is region-wide, and your order is at the top of the buy orders, then yours is the highest.
And you already discovered how to sort your price history table. :)

Has the other person got a minimum quantity set on their buy order? Smaller piles than that will be sold to you, larger to them. |
