Anyone know of anything similar to fraps that actually works for eve? I found a couple but they all tend not to work well with eve.
Thanks guys. (Preferably free :))

At the apple corporate office in Cupertino I bought an application called screenium. I think it cost me around $30 bucks. Seems to work best in a compressed mode, full screen. It does make eve run a bit choppier though, so may or may not be the best out there.

Quick Time [Pro] which comes free with 10.6 (Snow Leopard) can record your screen.
I've not tested it out but I wonder if anyone else has? (Let alone knew about it) ========================= CEO of Shadow Cadre http://www.shadowcadre.com ========================= |

Thought i had quicktime pro on this computer :/ i don't. Lol on that note, anyone know of any other programs. Or if it is possible at all, maybe send me a copy of Quicktime pro? I know some can just be copied if its one of them, maybe a possibility via email? As the ones that you pay for, i've actually tried out and they don't record eve properly :s
Thanks

I've just been doing my own research in this area and found the following:
The 3 things I would try out would be 1. QuickTime Player in Snow Leopard which has a nice screen recording function 2. ScreenFlow (US$99) and 3. Camtasia for Mac (US$99).
I've found some game (not EVE) videos that were recorded using QT Player and they look pretty good.
The king of screen recording apparently ScreenFlow and the new challenger from the PC world is Camtasia for Mac. I did find some Youtube video documenting how Camtasia works better if you need smooth audio while ScreenFlow handles fast moving graphics better.
Both of them have some editing functions so that you can do post editing after doing the capture.
That's about the extent that I know as I'm about to test these apps myself.

Edited by: Chunky Milk on 21/09/2009 00:19:03 Thanks for the in depth response. Ill look into them, hopefully they have trials :) Just wish there was something cheaper :/
I have heard of a a free thing called VNChttp://www.sodan.org/~penny/vncrec/ and although i consider myself quiet good at computer and even some coding, i still couldn't figure out how to get it set up as its not simply a program... any ideas? or anyone used that before?
Thanks again guys.
Edit: http://www.unixuser.org/~euske/vnc2swf/ <-- Thats the website i found it under links. But the above link is the actual recorder or at least how to do it. :/

This is not the Program you are looking for, move along please. :)
VNC @ Wikipedia
Virtual Network Computing (VNC) is a graphical desktop sharing system that uses the RFB protocol to remotely control another computer. It transmits the keyboard and mouse events from one computer to another, relaying the graphical screen updates back in the other direction, over a network.
With VNC you can use a VNC Viewer app to connect to a VNC Server and remote control that. It has nothing to do with video recording and i can tell you it would be a very bad idea to try ;)
VNC is great if you are not working with GFX ... if you would try to have EVE running in a VNC Session you would go insane because its REALLY REALLY slow and the quality sucks. Imagine undocking and waiting 2 minutes for the first frame .... and another for the second frame ... etc etc etc
VNCRec is for recording such a remote-control session.
Cheapest option (if it works that is - didn't test it with eve) would be to buy Snow Leopard for $29 and use the integrated Quicktime 10 Screen recording function. Please note that this can only record the complete screen and not individual windows ... well, i didn't find out how to do it and think it's just not possible.

if you do then you do not need quicktime pro.. just quicktime, if you don't have snow leopard the upgrade is less than the screen recording apps, and it records Eve like a charm.

I'm using Snapz Pro X for recording at the moment. If the Snow Leopard recording is any good then I'd go for that upgrade over any of the free software. Think of the extra hard drive space to keep movies on, if nothing else. Oh and slow frame rate is no bad thing. Smaller files are good and PvP almost always needs to be sped up to be watchable.

I tested ScreenFlow and it works nicely. My only complaint is the price of the app.
Do a search on youtube, there are uploads of other games recorded using Snow Leopard. Among them are some done for a FPS shooter and it seems smooth and very decent. No idea what kind of machine it was recorded on though.
