Bad streaming which made an otherwise fun and personal show kind of annoying to watch. I believe that Bitgravity failed with their stream and did not provide a satisfying service. Therefore, I must share their failure in image format, to be seen on the intrawebbz forever and ever!
A part of the map-browser has been censored since I believe in integrity.
Ccp, cwutIdthere? I cleared your name from the streaming issue and therefore I am requesting One Hundred Million Dollars! Or a corresponding ammount of in game ISK, which should be 100,00 isk!

Are you implying that I have quicktime and that somehow this is Me failing? You, Sir, must be a Bitgravity employe. You, Sir, have failed with your mission!

ROFL. While the stream did occasionally buffer and cut out, I'd say I was satisfied with it. Especially given the amazing HD when compared with previous live streaming.
Your images however show Apple failing, not Bitgravity.

This guy has no idea on how Data Center Operations run and he really shouldn't be whining like a school girl whom got her lunch stolen.
Tappad - You sir are the point of failure in this thread.. A) for having Quicktime on Vista B) for expecting expecting perfection I'd say they did a hell of a job, on the first 720P HD broadcast that had 7k-15k viewers on it for hours a day.

Stop whining. The streaming was just fine, a few desynchs but it was always reconnecting very quickly. The SD viewer was ok, and the HD viewer was simply awesome, very high quality. Props to Bitgravity and CCP for setting this up, was great and worked very well ;)

The steam was great, and ended too soon =(
I do doubt it was actually 720p, it certainly didn't look like it on a full HD TV, but awesomeness nonetheless ---

Mine would start buffering about once every 20 mins then the video would freeze and i'd just get sound. So I basically had to refresh the page every 20 mins to 'restart it'. Pretty annoying.
Quality was pretty good tho, so props for that.

Exactly what happened to me aswell, video stopped and it went to sound only. the quality was nice but it coud have been less buffering and reconnecting. i was missing a lott of stuff when it reconnected it cut out some talking.
i dont know if the internet supports this high quality streaming yet , but obviously its still got a lott of room for improvement.

I think you guys can complain when one of the following occurs.
You manage to broadcast to 14k+ people without issue. Broadcasting over the internet in high quality with 14K+ people is common place. You know networking and know their setup and know how they could have avoided it.
Bandwidth is key, but noobs with infested computers clogging up the internet bandwidth is key failure. ------------------------------------------------- Stop exploding you cowards! |

Good to know other people were having issues with constant buffering. My video would freeze, (while the audio continued to play)causing me to have to refresh the page every 5 mins.

Buffering did occur, and the picture-stop with only sound happened to me aswell - Even when Stevie brought up my question, which I then didn't actually hear the answer to, so timing! :p

I must disagree. Getting the buffernig or reconnecting to stream twice or more every minute is no what I call fine. I'm sorry but according to me it was not a good stream. I wouldn't have kept watching any other show like this, however the content was great and therefore I stuck by it.

Does this apply to every profession and activity there is? If you can't do it yourself you can't complain?
I won't even bother to quote Necronym since his post is just such a big fail I don't know where to start.
I'm also sorry I didn't notice the "LOL quicktime"-thread located here: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1182614

In my experience - 10MB UK
"standard" quality was ok for the most part - maybe a couple of 2-3 sec buffering a match HD was awful sat, ok for the 1st 4 matches sun (after I went to the bitgravity site and linked from there) but unwatchable after the 1st 4 matches
On the upside "standard" quality was quite good
Looking forward to the UTube releases

I dunno... I mean you take on a major endeavor that no one has ever tried before and not fail the first time. Then watch as people who received a free service complain to you how your service sucked because not only was it free... it lagged every once in a while.
I say state your issues, but dont complain. They arent your parents, and hopefully you arent their kids still living in the basement after 30 years complaining that there isnt any cheetos and Redbull left for you to gorge yourself on so that you dont have to feel feelings anymore. ------------------------------------------------- Stop exploding you cowards! |

I was just going for the "You got quicktime, n0b0b0ooob!"-part, since it's been pointed out not once, but twice in five posts. Also that the desktop was only showing inside the stream-window should have raised your awareness. Not like a sorry is necessary, but it is accepted!

As it seems to me CCP was hiring Bitgravity to provide a stream to its viewers. And as I wrote in post 16, the content (CCPs part) was great, but the stream (Bitgravitys part) wastn't.
It's like going "Hey, I'll host the olympics! I fix everything, logistics, food etc. etc." and everybody floods to your house to see the olympics and it turns out you had a spare bed, some leftovers from yesterday and you considered your lawn "big enough". Still can't complain, right?
As long as Bitgravity was hired by CCP to fix the stream, they failed! I don't buy the "It's free so shut up, down on your knees, hands together and praise Bitgravity forever and ever". To me that's just bull.

First, you have no idea what the contract stipulated. Did they expect 14k people on the stream or 10k? Did they expect 30k?... you dont know.

Edited by: TeaDaze on 23/09/2009 11:28:22 Many people have unrealistic expectations of what bandwidth their ADSL (for example) can sustain. This kind of streaming needs both high sustained bandwidth and low latency from the connection and reasonable CPU power on the decoding PC. Not all of this is directly controllable from the source.
At home I can download gigs of data per hour, but I was unable to stream AT6 without issues due to local contention on my exchange - hardly an issue CCP had any control over...

gotta agree that the quality was perfect but the buffer problem was too big. never could watch more than 3 mins before it would start buffering. sometimes 1 timer per 3 mins, other times 5 times per 30 sec >=/

You can find my experiences with the stream in the correct thread, I just gotta say here that as for the things you say my PC / Net is quite capable handling even streamed 1080p so 720p is a non-issue from the "client" side.
Basically the stream sucked, BitGravity didn't expect that many watchers and their hardware reserves were inadequate.
For an interesting tidbit: RIGHT AFTER the final match was over (reported 14300+ watching it and it buffered like crazy) the stream went from unwatchable to pixel-perfect. Only reason I can think is that the number of watchers dropped so dramatically that the hardware BitGravity had allocated to streaming could again cope with the strain put on by the number of clients.
So in the end: BitGravity failed, major time. They couldn't anticipate the popularity and had allocated way too little hardware resources. And it being weekend AND sunday, they had no way to step up the allocation without major costs (tech overtimes etc.) which they were obviously not inclined to pay to their people.

me too.
And I normally stream HD videos with little to no problem, so I would guess that it was a bit gravity issue. but the video quality was great so we have a little less than a year to fix this.
Here's hoping for an even more amazing AT8!
