Still training up for Heavy Assault Cruisers, and was considering an extreme armour tanking Ishtar. As it already has high resistances vs. Serpentis damage (kinetic and thermal), it seems that with the best mods this ship could be (almost) immune to their attacks. This post is really to see if experienced npc battling pilots feel the horde of heavy drones could really be a match for npc battleships (seeing as I've only fought against one (Zor) and got wiped pretty fast - as expected in a rusty old Thorax ).
Low slots Medium Armour Repairer II and 2x kinetic and 2x thermal hardeners (the 64% Commander ones) or Medium Armour Repairer II and 4x Energised Adaptive Nano (the 30.3% Commander ones)
Medium slots Microwarp Drive, Webifier, perhaps 3x Cap Rechargers
High slots 2x Medium Nosferatu, 3x small lasers (for EM damage on their non-boosting shields)
Dronebay 20x Ogres, or mixture of Praetors/Ogres
The hardener setup would have 97.9% kinetic and 95.8% thermal resistances The Adaptive Nano setup would have 96.2% kinetic and 92.3% thermal resistances
It could sit there all day long tanking (assuming a CTD didn't ruin your day), but I'm unsure if it could really do enough damage to take down battleships.
Any thoughts?

I went for lasers as the large Serpentis rats have high resistance to kinetic damage. They are weakest against thermal, plus of course EM on the shields. I figured I would hit them where it hurts, rather than using standard Gallente hybrid weapons.
I didn't put medium weapons due to fitting restraints. I suspect the cap recharge would be excellent anyway (perhaps even too good), so felt that double hardeners would be more of a benefit.

Originally by: Kel Shek while I have not gotten even close to actually flying that....
on the lows I'd probably try for 1 active thermal, 1 active kinetic, and 1 energized adaptive, and 1 CPR
honestly the small lasers strikes me as odd..... wouldn't medium rails be more appropriate?
The fitting gets a bit tight to be honest. If the Nosferatu's were removed, and with max skills for relevant CPU/Powergrid fitting, you would have 75 CPU and 538 Powergrid. That would be 3x Dual 150's, or 2x 200's and a Dual 150 (using named weapons to reduce CPU), or 2x 250's. You could squeeze in 2x 250 Proto and a Dual 250 I suppose. _____________________

Kel - the 1x Adaptive Nano, 1x kinetic and 1x thermal hardeners looks promising. 95.9% kinetic resistance and 91.8% thermal. If the cap recharge is ok, I could use the 5th slot to ease fitting requirements with a CPU enhancer (though I hate the thought of needing one) or RCU / PDS. I could even stick in a damage mod.

Fair comment. The figures work out that EM/Thermal with no bonus (lasers) would be slightly better against shields than Kinetic/Thermal with a 25% bonus (hybrids), though the figure really is small. Radio crystals could make it worthwhile (EM only damage).
Against armour though, you are correct - hybrids would make more sense.
Please note that my main question is whether 15 heavy drones (+5 backups) could handle a battleship. I appreciate all the other comments though; keep them coming

Originally by: Squirrel you can easily kill any npc battleship with 14 heavy drones, as long as you get them all to lock and fire on you before you release the drones, you'll be fine
Good to hear. I must admit I tend to keep distance in my Thorax using rails, and the drones are a last line of defence if I get into difficulty.
Now all I need is to find someone who likes kicking the crap out of Cormack, Chelm and Draclira, so I can get hold of the armour hardeners

Originally by: Marcus Aurelius Actually, not quite.
Having em all target you helps alot, but if you are not within reasonable range they tend to retarget your drones and kill them pretty damn fast. And seeing 15 ogres against one BS...will take some time I'm afraid.
I think using a deimos would end up the better bet tbh.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

In that case, would the firepower of a Deimos be too gimped with the majority of the low slots used in an armour tank? In my plan there would only be one low slot left for grid enhancement / damage mod. Might be tricky to fit enough suitably damaging guns in the high slots?

Cheers Kardim.
Should have the skills pretty soon, and there's a local supplier a few jumps from my base of operations... hopefully I'll only need to contact him once _____________________
