Subject pretty much covers my question. Is there a race that's better at mining, at least starting off?
The character is not meant to progress super far anyhow, I just want a mining alt to help out.
Thank you. |

With the changes to new players, no, every race and bloodline starts out the same, with the exception of their specific racial ship/weapon skills. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

The Caldari have the best mining frigate and mining cruiser (Bantam and Osprey), so for a starting edge I'd go for them. You won't have access to the best haulers without cross-training, but it doesn't matter that much. -----

The time difference between starting caldari and starting any other race to get into the bantam and osprey is going to be measured in hours at most, so really it does not matter what race you chose, just go with something you like the looks of. --------------------------------------------

I believe everyone starts off with their racial frigate at only 1 or 2, so the difference would actually be measured in minutes, not hours. Pick your race and bloodline according to the backstory and character look you like best.
Most people train the Bantam/Osprey as a stepping stone to the mining barges, something to mine in while learning. If you have another character that you can play with while this one is learning, you have the option of skipping the mining frigate/cruiser ships altogether and going straight to a mining barge -- in which case your starting racial skills make zero difference.
If you have a set goal of skills that you plan to stop your alt at, plug all those skills into EVEMon and let it suggest which learning skills you need in order to have the fastest overall training time.
I promise nothingÖ. --CCP Prism X |

Galante is sleightly best in the end.
You start with the skill Galante Frigate, whats a prerequest to fly the Galante Industrial.
Iteron is still the best highsec hauler (size cargo).
But if you do not intent to make your Hulk pilot a hauler alt also. The race really does not matter.

But for the Iteron V you need to go all the way to Gallente Industrial V (over a week's additional training).
The Mammoth has (at base) 400 m^3 less cargospace and you only need Minmatar Industrial IV (meaning half the training time). The Badger Mark 2 has 800 m^3 less cargo space than the Iteron V, but only needs Caldari Industrial III to fly. The Bestower has 1200 m^3 less than the Iteron V, but can be flown at Amarr Industrial I.
By the time you're in an Iteron V, you could instead be flying your first Retriever.

Still talking only about the hauler, and the Mammoth is indeed a very fine ship, but still not what the iteron is, and thats a FULL CAN hauler. Except if you train Minmater Industrial to rank 5 you wont be able to haul a full can... And if you train for the Iteron 5, you fly a cheaper ship (less cargo expanders needed) that is a full can hauler. That makes the Iteron still the best industrial ship.

Just keep your skills focused on mining skills, whatever race. Try not to train 'wasted' skills that have nothing to do with mining if you want a great mining character.

As it is, my main flies and Ity III with 3 cargo 2 expanders, and it's more then what I need at the moment. Right now it hauls 11m3. I'm going to load it with some rigs soon.

It depends on weither you're making a mining alt ie going into retriever / hulk or a character that can mine & mission.
If you're doing the mine + mission thing then you prolly want to go caldari, as the rohk is the mining battleship along with decent frigs and cruisers, but it's still put to shame by a hulk...
Truth be told it's prolly easier to just create an alt of the race you've got the best standings with for reprossessing ease..

Well, mammoth can use GSC and be full can hauler also (at lvl4). The fact its that the itty V its the best t1 hauler but not the best hauler/SP. Also there is the option to not use t1 industrial at all, the hulk have a pretty nice calgohold and the Orca require negligible SP deviation from the hulk skill path.
_ I like to play this game because it make my in-game actions and archievments to mean something in-game. |
