Last night I was in a fleet with someone and I used my Iteron to hold all the stuff they were mining. This let them keep on mining while I took care of dumping it at a station. Then I turned around and posted a sell order for the price they gave me.
Since I'm taking care of the shipping of the material to a station AND selling it too, what kind of percentage is a good cut to take? 5%? 30%? 50%?

well when i'm mining and i have someone hauling weather it be 2 or more, the minerals are divided evenly among the participants, so if ur hauling and say your in a group of 3 i would expect nothing less then 33%, 4 people-25% and so on -----------------------------------------------

Has he made an offer? What were they using to mine?
If it was a low end ship I'd shoot for 50/50 as you greatly improved the yield. However, to keep some good will prepare to be negotiated down a bit.
If it was a HULK or something like it you probably wouldn't have such a good case for a high split.
My normal practice is to just agree on a 50/50 split of profits. Sharing the load reduces the risk, and somewhat removes some boredom of mining so it's better to remove profit splitting debates out of the equation.

I would say 50/50 because of time invested.

hauler's part is based on difference of what miner makes with and without hauler.
A= miner with hauler B= miner without hauler C= difference
C=A-B
hauler gets part of C. how much depends on agreement. fair deal would be 50% split on difference. so, miner gets A+C/2, while hauler gets C/2. this is not worth much to hauler servicing only 1 hauler, however it's not time consuming either. hauler can easily cover multiple miners. depending on stats, 3-5 miners and a hauler get equal shares.

I would certainly do that in my corp, or even give all my proceeds to my hauler. He probably needs it more than I do. I'm always for promoting corp engagements for mutual benefit.
However, other than that, it would depend on the ships being used as well. A Hulk pilot, for example, has considerably more time, skills, and ISK invested in the ship he is using than an Iteron III pilot, and is certainly contributing more to the results, so should in all fairness, get a larger cut.
So, I would go with something as suggested by Jagga, however, I would add a factor:
A = miner with hauler B = miner without hauler C = difference D = if B is with jet can, D is likelihood of can being flipped without hauler (so, one out of 20 chance would be 5%, or the multiplier would be 1.05) E = hauler's amount
C = A - B E = (C/2) * D
Totally made that up off the top of my head, but the hauler is providing some added protection to the Hulk miner by hauling and lessening the chance of being can flipped, thereby deserves a little bit more of the difference.

When we run corp mining ops the corp keeps ten percent and the rest is evenly divided between anyone that attends for at least one hour even if they are mining in a cruiser (though no one is allowed to mine in a cruiser for long) or hauling. This has always been a nice polite way to run the friendly ops.
In your case though you might consider hiring your hauler out to others on a flat per hour our per haul basis. That way you could avoid any lengthly conversations about the relative value to miners in terms of increasing their income.
Hope this helps, MeigsYan Master of the (Orca Class) Deep Space Exploration And Mining Vessel "Long Shot" |

There are a couple of ways to do it. But no matter how you do it, decide BEFORE you start the op.
1. equal shares--everyone benefits from the continuous mining having a hauler allows. Also, have you ever done nothing but endlessly loop between a can and a station? At least the miners can chill out. The hauler never stops clicking and aligning.
2. negotiated percentage--accept what you are comfortable with. But don't lowball yourself. The ABC equation above is a good example of how to figure out how much your help is worth.
3. flat fee--accept what you are comfortable with etc etc.
we generally did our ops for the corp. all the money went to the corp. when we did personal profit ops, you take care of getting a hauler yourself. If you want a hauler, you pay the hauler. Otherwise, get a second acct and do your own hauling. |
