Hi
Many times I have been killed due to the lack of info my fleet commander can get from a stargate scout... but even more from scanning potential targets.
When scanning, you don't rly see every thing (like position and fittings) so it is easy to make 15 frigates (us) fly into a bubble trap we meant to spring but find a fleet that used a light "fly catcher" as bait and put a heavy bubble on us then kill us with BS and fighters...
To avoid such things i had an idea

Next time we go on a "wolf pack operation" I think I should bring a cloaked frigate to scout out targets that are thought to be small gate camps that we think we can kill. If it is what we think it is i can call in an attack but if i see that the positions are a bit strange and unrealistic, i can always cal it off before it happens so we don't run into a bad situation.
The only problem is, I cant use black ops ships (or any cloak ships) But only the cloaking devise.
Currently i have (Cloaking 3/4) but can use a (improved cloak)
1: Is this a good idea at all for large wolf packs? (small?)
2: If so, how far from an object (like a gate) should i warp to? (I can move fast but not very fast)
3: If who I am spying on turns very aggressive and micro warps to me what is the best direction to run or do i attempt to warp?

tbh if your frigate blob is dying from BS and fighters your definatly doing something wrong. Fit frigates with MWDs, you should be able to all burn out of the bubble and warp before a BS locks you. Also you should be able to out run fighters without an issue.
A covert op scout is always a good idea, but in your case anyone in your fleet should be able to fit that position just b/c a frigate *should* be able to burn back to the gate and jump through.

This, and even if you didn't have anyone who could get out of a situation like that (don't see why the couldn't though) then you just have to make someone go ahead and scout regardless.
A fleet without a scout is a dead fleet. ------

You shouldnt be in a fleet that doesn't have a scout . Sometimes even 2 scouts are good . Small fast cov-ops or cloaky ships are the best .Interceptors are good . The scout should be someone thats calm and can give lots of intel after every gate he jumps thru. Count in local , count at a camp , ship types , etc. The scout needs to make fast decisions to protect himself AND keep his fleet commander informed.
As far as getting engaged goes. Your job is not to fight , its to stay alive .

I'm not sure about this but I think you can get the bubble on the overview and with the scanner limit you should be able to see it. Secondly, if your in a wolfpack, target the bubble and destroy it. Do it quick then go to a planet and warp back. problem solved.
For your scout, inty is enough. being a scout requires quick thinking and quick reflexes. But yes a cloak is good but pricey if you lose it.

You can show mobile warp disruptors on your overview. If you are in scanning range, they will show up. If you think a gate may be bubble camped but aren't in scan range, check your map and warp to a celestial, a planet is usually nearby and you can tell what is on the gate before warping to it. Doesn't work for 0.0 dics and hics bubbles, but by scanning you can see whether those ships are there.
If you warp at 100km to a gate, a sling bubble will drag you in anyway... If it's an area you are in regularly, make safespots 200km above the gates, that way you can warp to them and not get pulled in by bubbles.
