Edited by: Mr TriX on 24/10/2004 11:15:38 I started getting lots of instability with eve lately. Mainly month of october 2004. I decided to buy a new video card thinking my radeon 9200 was too old. This just caused more crashes and CTDs. So thinking it may have been MB or CPU problems I upgraded to AMD XP 3200+ 64 bit CPU with a motherboard and DDR400 ram.
Still problems are extream, I can't even play eve anymore. I can login sometimes I am lucky and my client doesn't crash for 20 minutes. But if I do anything significant like NPC hunt, chat in corp chat, or undock I usely CTD or blue screen. Sometimes the computer even reboots itself.
Can someone helpe me resolve this issue so I can play eve again?
Details: AMD 64 Bit 3200+ processor. DFI nF3 lan party UT 250gb motherboard. 2- 512mb corsair DDR 400 chops. X800 pro 256mb radeon.
Windows XP pro corporate. (2nd fresh install w/format) Catalys 4.10 drivers. .Net 1.1 sp 1 Directx 9.0c Graphics settings both low and high and everthing inbetween to no avil (including in-game settings). CPU burn in Tests completed 0 errors. video burn in, 0 errors. memtest (all tests) 0 errors. SATA 150 HDD, surface scanned 0 errors. Eve patched latest, multiple fresh installs (shiva & castor both crash the same).
Not sure what else to do. I've worked through all the problems with some corp mates who also happen to be computer techs. Yet my problem is presistant.
If you recommend an older driver please give me a driver version or catalyst version plz.
Thanks

only things I can think of at present
have you installed the newest nVidia drivers for your motherboard?
Try running with your memory clocked at 333MHz rather than 400 MHz. A few people reported instability running at 400MHz.
Try running your graphics card at AGP x4 rather than x8. This can be set in the drivers.
I have to run in x4 with my 9600 or I get graphics corruption.

i am getting the same issues but one thing. Some times i can play for a hour or two and then ctd a couple of times. My system is really close to your also. I have been getting the corrupted packets alot more. I am looking for an answer to the problem. I have done everything i can think of. I also have updated every driver to the newest all the way down to the bios. I have an ati x800 xt msi kt8 neo 1 gig 400z kingston 2- seagate 120 in raid 0 sound blaster live sc (was using onboard)
I have turned down the video card to the point it just look like a really old game so i can get max performance and it still ctd. I also have another older system that never misses a beat. But it is so laggy but get the job done though. This is the only game that i have problems with. I can run every other game from bf42 to doom set to high graphics. And work fine. i have sent a email to ccp and yea that one has not been answered yet. anything would help. Thanks Black

I was told sometime ago that ATI cards don't use fast writes and may become unstable with it on. Just remove that and see what happens, it does not decrease the performance at all

Edited by: Mode Zero on 25/10/2004 02:42:46 Edited by: Mode Zero on 25/10/2004 02:34:19 ATi cards DO use fast writes. This was only an issue with the KT333 / KT400 (VIA) chipsets.
Looking at those setups, if your power supply is not at least 500 watts then you are looking to break something.
Fast Writes Enable your CPU to write directly to your video cards memory.
Looks like you have issues with you CPU and or RAM. Your CPU may not betting enough juice (Power Supply) or your RAM timings may be to low. Check your BIOS and go to your RAM timings. If you CAS is at 2, try changing it to 2.5.
Also, go to system helth (in your BIOS as well) look at your various voltages (known as rails). If they are fluctuating more than 0.2 up or down, then you need a more powerful power supply.

All I know is with a resonably similar set up I was getting freeze ups.
I set agp to X4 and turned fast write "off" and have not had a freeze up since... (close to a month now)

After half year pause from EVE, I'm back in game. But wha'?! I get a bluescreen every once in 15-60mins of playing.
Saying: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
and a file cmuda.sys is mentioned too.
The game worked just fine half years ago. Since then I have installed SP2, bought a new graphics card and an extra hard disk...
Details: *** 2,6 P4c x800 xt: Driver 6.14.10.6483 (newest catalysts) 2x 512MB Kingston value ram msi 865pe neo -motherboard
2x 160gb Samsung SP1614N IDE Hard disks
C-Media AC97 Audio Device (integrated soundcard) **
Now, I have thought about 4 possible reasons for the bluescreen: ACPI, windows paging file, broken ram or soundcard irq conflict (due the cmuda.sys is part of the sound systemsomething). I've heard that ACPI messes with irq's for some reason.
This problem comes up in EVE only, so any help would be great.

In the support section they recommend this driver for AC97 soundcards if you are having problems. The file cmuda.sys is the driver for your soundcard so I recommend you try the recommended driver out.
Good luck!

After trying everything. The last thing I did was turn my ram down from 200mhz (DDR400) down to 166mhz (DDR333) which cleared up almost (yes Almost) all my blue screens. And I can now play eve somewhat. I still get graphics glitches and occasional CTDs (1 every hr or so).
The only remaining video glitch is an occasional white tringle flash on the screen ( about 1/10th the height of the screen, so large) and usely when it does this I can no longer see space, my ship, astreoids other ships etc. I can only see the chat windows like corp chat and local. Changing resolution, full screen or not will not bring my ship view back and hence I must relog.
This error happens very often, about 4-6 times per hour. or more. Also unrelated to how high or low my video settings are in game or windows settings.
Thanks everyone for your posts. May other people post your related problems hopefully we can find or help CCP find a resolution for this problem since more people are going to be upgrading to this latest equiptment we are all having troubles with.

Mr. Trix, what video drivers are you using? Your experiencing a geometrical error thats often a result of your GPU core overheating. Please check the HSF (Heat Sink Fan) on your GPU, or better yet, replace it.

You could try to up your agp voltage one notch, might actually help. Then, many grafix boards really hate it when they don't get a line from psu exclusively. Did you use the second plug on that line to power some other hardware?
Is your psu really up to its' task?
Concerning your ram running at 166, did you increase the memory voltage? Some of the ultra short latency memories need a higher voltage than the usual brands.
I'm using ocz memory sticks and the first thing I did was adjusting the voltage. They run rock stable at 2-2-2-5 (1T) ever since.

I'm experiencing the same error as Mr TriX, however if I dock in a station or jump to a new system, the problem corrects itself. I run EVE in a window and so I'm able to monitor the temps and nothing seems at all off. This is something I've only encountered recently. I'm also using xp pro sp2, amd 64 3400+ on a nvidia based mother board with a ATI X800 and 1gb of ddr 400 ram

Ok Problem has been resolved! :)
while poking around in bios I noticed a enable/disable for AC97 audio. For some reason I was thinking Nforce 3 had its own type of audio but I was wrong.
I tired the AC97 beta audio drivers as listed above. And I have played all day long today with no video glitches and no crashes.
The only downfall is now when I run multiple clients the sound dont sound as great when alot of things are going on at once which is totally acceptable compariable to video crashes.
So I guess this audio glitch is some how causing or corrupting video memory or the fast writes to the video memory.
But I encourage the rest of you to try the audio drivers to see if that fixed your problem.
Thanks to all that has helped!
