So.. looking at the cost of a fully fit BC compared to a fully fit cruiser, there isnt a huge difference.
For small gang pvp in nullsec, which ship would you choose?

I'd say it depends on two things, namely:
Whether you're going on double secret combat patrols Whether you need to do over 600DPS per second ---

I wish I could do 600 damage per second per second. Blane Xero > Lance is at -0.9 sec status with a 1 million bounty. LAnce is also amarrian. Thats 3 evil points |

It gets more EFT DPS. (And often, more "real world" DPS too).

Thats protip don't mix long and short range guns or different types, not don't use any spare CPU/PG to upgrade the acs you've already got on .....

Posting to say debbie is clueless. Mixing gun sizes is perfectly fine if you are min-maxing your fit for the highest DPS and need to fill out every PG/CPU. Just don't mix arty & ACs, as already mentioned.
Hurricane and Harby are both amazing, pick either. I would go for the Harby personally and slap a shield tank on it. ___________________

Stop fitting Trimarks on T1 cruisers. That alone makes the Hurricane cheaper to fit and fly.
Other then that, it's a nice fit.

medium rigs are cheap.
Medium trimarks are not cheap. Let's do a bit of quick back of the envelope math. Correct me if my numbers are wildly off.
T2 Rupture losscost (4M 1600mm rt, 4 mil guns + neuts, 2 mil dronebay, 2 mil web/disruptor, 4 mil random lows, 1 mil ammo/rest of T1 crap) = 17M
Medium trimarks ~18M
Total cost = ~32M.
Nanocane loss cost: (6m t2 lows,4m mids, 5m mwd, 7m highs, 2m dronebay, 2m ammo/etc, 5m base hull, 6m rigs) = 37 M.
Platecane loss cost: (4m 1600mm rt, 5m other t2 lows, 3m mids, 7m highs, 2m dronebay, 2m ammo/etc, 5m base hull, 6m rigs) = 34 M.
Trimarked platecane, for instance, is ~46M.
Maybe when the current fad of trimarking everything wears off we'll see more reasonable trimark prices. It's not that trimarks are always the optimal choice with the speed penality they inflict anyway.

Harby and Cane are very viable and common for nullsec small gang PVP. They basically play the role of high-DPS providers in small roaming gangs (where BS are too slow). Usually, inties/ bubblers catch the prey, and the BCs pour the DPS on it.
Neither is clearly superior for small gangs, both do about as well but vary in slightly different ways. Harby: a bit more damage (useful to get tough targets down quick), medium drone bay can fit medium damage drones/ECM drones. Cane: warps and moves a bit faster so more likely to get a tackle and escape bad situations. better at neuting and less vulnerable to being neuted than the Harby.
Can't really go too wrong with either.

trouble with the cane is you have to be so damn close to do any effective dps and so this makes constant mwd use a must which imo makes it more cap vulnerable. tbh the caine brutix and harby are all sweet gank ships and pretty decent semi gank tank ships too. If you read this then you have to lick my balls. |

It does indeed. MWD goes in the one he didn't mention. Seconding that nanocane/cyclone is better than a plated and trimarked Ruppie.
