Ok first i have tried to find this and have found some post relating to it but not anyone that i could get to work. I am having problems with it and i have also sent a package to CCP to help. But yet again no answer for like Two weeks.
Ok here is the description of the problem. I am sometime writing in the chat box and hit enter to send, ban desktop. Sometimes i am clicking mining lazors, bam desktop. The one that give the most desktop action is the clicking on the after burner, useing the hot key or mouse. And then there is alot of other just clicking that does it also. But i have tested out the afterburner with hot key and mouse. Any help or ideas to try would help and i would be happy to try. Some time the ctd are really close and other times i can go a couple hours. I will go as far as saying i will give someone a million isk if they help me solve this problem.

Here is the solution:
Unistall Eve.
Update Drivers for Video card.
Reinstall Eve from fresh download.
Patch to current release.
Should work, unless you don't have the minimum system specs to run eve.

Michelle Black, this is in no way a fix but more of a list of possible problems that can cause the problems you have.
The fact that you get kicked when you activate or do something that sends a packet across the network to the servers means that for some reason the path that was setup when you log in to eve has been closed. This can be caused by any number of things.
If you are usuing dial-up or an internal / external ADSL adaptor, try updating the drivers for the device (does not affect Ethernet connected routers etc but will affect USB ones)
Check for virus's and spyware (Spybot & Adaware will check for spyware but must be kept uptodate)
Try disabling application filtering on your firewall (I do NOT reccomend disabling it fully) if you have any
Use a program to check for packet drop along your connection route (something like tracert but there are better)
Check to see if you have discconect on idle enabled on your internet connection
if all of this does not work, try using a different ISP (If you can find a free one)
Can you also provide a list of hardware inside your PC and also your internet connection.

thanks for the reply. I was going to test out the reinstall again. This is the second time i have reinstalled it. I forgot to metion that i have a second computer running another account with eve and it never misses a beat. So it can be narrowed down to something on just the better computer. I have been testing it out for about 1.5 hours and it has been running good. I have not had any ctd, i will continue to test until tomorrow. So far the third install seemed to take. I am going continue the test tomorrow, if by tomorrow the problem has seemed to be fixed, i will send you the money. I never thought about tring it for the third time.
So if you would please post the name you want the money to go to gungankllr....
got to love that simple money......

ok....so it almost worked. it ctd right as i was doing some stuff to get ready to get off(market research). Qwakrz here is the specs on the ctd computer,
3.2 amd 64bit xp pro sp1, not sp2(to many bad stories) kt8 neo mobo/kingston 400z 1 gig(updated bios) 2 seagate 120/8m/7200 set in raid0 onboard/promise controller Sound blaster live (updated driver) ati radeon X800XT 256 (updated driver) Connect to TKS (german telekom only have one internet provider)
i use a router to connect both computer and laptop to the internet. The computer i gave you the specs on is the only one that does the ctd. My other one is running fine. And this is the only game that i have trouble on also. Also i used the same downloaded filed to install on both comupters, so i dont think it was a corrupted down load. And for the application filtering that would effect the working computer so i dont think that is a problem.
I clear out the cash alot and still get the ctd. I use norton 2004 for virus and firewall on both and they are set up the exact same way.
I will check the trace packet, i will use the ip that it gives you. I just did a trace route and it worked fine. I have set up the ping funtion for 500 pings every 5 seconds at 1024 size of packet. i am at 115 and have one failure at the 15 mark. the average ms is at 150ms.
I just uninstalled the game and then uninstalled the vc drivers. I have reinstalled the video drivers and installed the game.
i will test it out tomorrow. thanks for the help.

Edited by: Avon on 25/10/2004 20:03:46 You might be having router / firewall problems. If you lose connection to the server it might not be immediately obvious, especially if you are docked. The game does not ctd straight away, or always warn you that you are no longer connected. However, when your client sends information to the server (ie you type something in chat, fit something to your ship etc.) the client just ctd's
As connecting to the internet directly is not recommended it may be worth setting port 26000 on your firewall as a server port (open, unconditional access, not stealthed) Sometimes port forwarding can be an issues with routers, especially wireless. If you are using port forwarding on a wireless router it is worth extending the timeout on forwarding to a minute or more.
Hope this all helps. I used to have this issue frequently, and finally traced it to a firewall setting on my router and a badly set timeout value. ______________________________________________

if i have firewall/router issuses would that not be doing the same on both computers. to explain one rock steady and one ctd often so that is why i was ruling out connection and firewall issuses. And i am running a wired network.
i will look into the setting on the firewall.

That's what I thought too. My desktop PC would be fine, but my laptop was really bad. I knew it wasn't a problem with my laptop because it played fine if I plugged it directly into the cable modem. The problem was a router setting. ______________________________________________

Another, overlooked fix is to open your computer case, and blow out all the fuzz and accumulated crap out of the interior with a can or two of compressed air.
I had a buddy who never bothered to do that, and the inside of his case got pretty nasty. He had added a second fan to increase airflow, but he ended up setting up a negative-airflow situation and he sucked every bit of dust and fuzz in his apartment into his case.
After about a year, his computer started dorking up, and he said that he had so much crapola in there that the fan on his video card wouldn't spin right.
I don't think that having dust and ghost turds in your case is really such a bad thing, but it certainly won't help any.
A few other things you can try are making sure your RAM goes in the right slots (Biggest in slot 1, second biggest in slot 2, etc. ).
Another thing you may want to try is saving everything you need to CD/Portable storage device, and then reinstalling your operating system.
Sometimes a faulty install or corrupted install of the operating system can play games with your programs.
If all else fails, then you may have a hardware problem. That is something that none of us can help you with, I'm afraid.
www.newegg.com
That website is cheap for computer parts, and may be a solution for you. I bought 512 MB of extra ram and a 256mb NVidia card for about 200 bucks.

ok for a couple hours now...some last night and some this morning, i have been running smooth. I didnt clean out the computer. It is just about a couple months old. So what i have did was reload the op software. All the way down and reinstalled everything. So far i have been doing great, had one crash to desktop but that was cause of the server disconnecting both of my computer so it was ok. Other than that it has been running some thanks for all of the help. gungankllr i guess you was the one that said what i was really not wanting to do to try to fix it but again you said it so yea you get the money! please tell me when you would like to get your money.

Following this thread I seem to be reading your problem and am not too sure about it.
is it a CTD (Crash to Deskto) or is it a kick back to the login screen. The two are not similar at all.
CTD is (and for those who might not think so they should re-think their view) when the game closes down and you end back up at the desktop without the eve client running.
So is your connection getting lost (you get an error message with this) or is it a CTD (game is fully closing with no error messages)

Just wire it to Gungankllr in game, if you've got an excess of ISK. If you're as broke as I am, don't worry about it, I'm happy to try and help.
