I so far have been unable to both load a decent amount of gear and a probe launcher on my ships in order to explore some wormhole space because the probe launchers have a disgusting CPU requirement.
How is one suppose to both survive in WH space, but make sure they can get into/out of the area safely? It doesn't make any sense. Am I missing something?

*facepalm* I thought I bought the core launcher, but it turns out I bought the expanded core launcher instead...the Core launcher is only 15...*sigh* reading comprehension ftw...

he must getting old then. put sister combat probes instead so you can scan everything. nuff said (works with all skills to 4, every site scanable)

Core probes have a base sensor stength of 40 (44 for sisters probes), while combat probes have a base sensor strength of 20. Combat probes can conceivably find cosmic signatures, but not very effectively.

core probes start at .25 AU vs the combat probe's.5 AU,so they really have the same sensor strength.(halved every time distance doubles)

Am I missing something? I was under the impression that combat scanner probes can only scan down ships, while core scanner probes can only scan signatures. Is that wrong?

core probes can only scan sites, combat probes can probe ships or sites, though combat probes only go down to .5au vers core probes .25au so some sites may be difficult to get 100% on with combat probes.

As said above. Also when I go into a WH and after a quick system scan (to check for nearby ships) I switch to combat probes to do the initial survey.

popping 1 or 2 combat probes and the rest core probes gets me far.
Im the girl momma warned you about..

but then you cant get a fix on ships & co i would say since you basically only have 2 combat probes for ships (sure you get sites...).
so far i got every site but 1 with combat probes (i carry sister cores just in case though)

it's not about the fact you CAN scan something down (heck, when i was lvling up my skills and started to try out probing, i did it in an unrigged ceptor) but how FAST.
yes, clicking the button and waiting for an result takes the same seconds... but in order to get a 100% result you'll have to scan more often and align your probes more often than with core probes. and that on a <all lvl IV> char. i did the test:
- sansha provi HQ (one of the harder ones to get a 100%): as soon as i had the core probes at 0,25AU properly aligned i had a result. with combat probes i had to align the probes closer and closer and finally got a result. but the time i spend "under 1AU" took me like 3x the time it took with cores.
- something easier, like a sansha base: i got a 100% result with my cores at 1AU (and would still have the option for 0,5AU and 0,25AU if that wasn't enough). with combats i had to go to 0,5AU to get a result.
and the examples go on and on. so: i prefer cores > combat all the time. makes stuff faster. and maybe where you life speed doesn't matter, but i tell you that where i life, if i am not fast enough, some1 else will be in the plex very soon.
oh and about systems that are bigger than 32AU? geez, i just spit out 2-4 core probes at 32AU instead of just one. chances are i will need those 4 out anyways if i get a result.
