But as i can see in game, all research slots are always filled, sometimes for weeks and months. Is there another way to do research without having to fight for a slot?

None that are available to new players/characters though. I can't create a research specialist and do research right away because public stations are perpetually full. And as far as i can tell, stations in 0.0 are also full, all the time.

Corp? Not sure if it's still active, but there was an alliance called 'New Eden Research' or some such. they have the POSs and charge a small fee (it really is small, 3.5 - 15k isk / hour) to use them.
Again, if you looked yourself, this would all be obvious to you. -_-_-_-

either a POS in low sec (small tower for 100M, 2-3 Labs for 90 each, each Lab has 3 ME slots, fuel for about 20M per month) or a POS in high sec, if your corporation meets the standing requirements for the local faction. Yes, 300M is a lot of money for a new player, but it is not like unreachable. |

Did you know that you can queue up your own research in the filled slots? It'll start when the previous job is finished.
While you still have to wait a while it's not like you can't ever get your research done. ______________________

Join a corp.
Queue up in npc.
Hire someone else to do the research for you.
0.0 outposts have free slots usually.
Join a corp.
All easy solutions.

I started off by just joining the queue. Sure, it took me 15+ days per job, but I got a lot of research done and got rolling in T1 manufacturing.
I later gave a friend my BPO to research. He'd fly to Curse in his Covert Ops ship and do research and invention.
Eventually my friend got tired of the trips, and set-up his own POS. Eventually I had enough ISK to setup my own POS. Now I have more free slots than I can make use of.

I usually translate "There is not enough (asteroids, research slots, moons, etc etc)" to mean "I am in Caldari space and can't be arsed to move."
But I'll admit research slots are particularly scarce (in high sec) much of the time. If you are unable to afford a POS and unwilling to work in low sec, I'd advise joining a research alliance. You need to train up scientific networking a bit but you'll want that eventually no matter how you do your research.

Hehe, yeah, they aren't doing so well anymore.
More seriously, if you only want to do station research, try 0.0 NPC stations. Wait times are a fraction of highsec slot times.

No, i was not aware i could do that. That might explain why they are always filled, people just queue a long time in advance...

I'm in Gallente space, but it's full all the time.

As suggested there are a number of research alliances/corps you can join for monthly or per hour fees to gain access to labs.
You can also set up your own tower + labs. Costly (expect around 1bil in assets) and throw on another 200-300 mil to have someone join your corp and get standings up so you can anchor in hi-sec if you don't like the sound of anchoring the tower in low-sec.
Honestly though, if the prints are to supply your manufacturing then do as I did and just buy BPCs at first. Much lower up front costs, you're able to rapidly diversify and move to other items if your profit margins are slashed through competition.
Once the isk pours in from your manufacturing, then you can use that to expand and anchor tower or buy BPOs and trade with either a friendly corp or advertised research corps and trade unresearched BPO + ISK for a researched BPO (something I've done for a number of friendly corps, so I'm sure there are others out there doing the same).
Sure, dream big, but start small. Astronautical Engineering - T1 BPC Store - Now recruiting |
