Which probably won't get answered, but I'm gonna ask anyway.
Originally by: CCP Oveur 2006.09.26 12:58:59 We also wanted to improve loot in general, so we finally went ahead and exchanged that pristine can that drops for a proper wrecked ship. That shipwreck is now salvage-able, where you will find scraps of components required to create Rigs, the new ship upgrades which currently have a heavy defensive focus.

You're taking away our ISK! We don't make that much ISK!
Understandably percieved so based on the listing in the last blog so let's clarify that also. Direct ISK into your wallet as bounty from NPCs are not the way we reward you for the high level agent missions.
You can still make (tons) of ISK, but it's in the form of materials, tools, ship loot drop, salvaging, technology (hacking). You now have the choice to either capitalize on these items and make them worth more to other players by using the mini-professions or simply sell directly the stuff to other players.
The only difference is that we're not creating ISK out of thin air from CONCORD (Infusion) but rather giving you perishable items (Sink) which other players pay you for.
Additionally, the Loyalty Point system and it's changes towards a more store-like system will open up new avenues for you. So for short, you will get rewarded for your effort, except you now have the opportunity to work a bit more with it and sell it for even more ISK.
Missions are ISK-printing machines!
Yes, in a certain way they are. They infuse ISK from CONCORD and other NPCs into the economy. They print money into the EVE economy. On the other hand, so does hunting pirates in belts when you are mining.
But are they really that insanely lucrative? No, not really. They can be for some, for other they simply are far from it. This is one reason for why you have so extremely different cases of "how missions are for me". Remember, it's fine to speculate, but don't generalize unless you have the empirical data to prove it. And we happen to have that.

If you're surprised as to why the server does not consider it your stuff, it's because it's a mini profession designed for people who want to roam and look for salvage, not to further increase the revenue from mission grinding.. I doubt anyone with a perspective thinks we need to high-sec increase mission grinding any further.
So what changed?

I mean seriously, there were 4 or 5 blogs on how you were fighting inflation by reducing bounties and payouts on missions but replacing it with better loot and wrecks and salvage ect ect ect.
And a couple weeks after putting salvage in game you all ninja change the loot rules. WTF?

The loot "rules" never changed. The loot is still yours but salvage is free game until it has been located into your cargo hold. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Actually if you knew Eve history they've changed a couple times. In the beginning when npcs dropped loot/jet can rather then wrecks loot was FFA. Many people didn't like this and there was back and forth (just like now) on the forums for over 2 years about it. In the end loot cans flagged you for theft. I can't remember if they did it all at once or loot cans and then jet cans later. Point is concord let you shoot at thieves.
Fast forward to the day they added wrecks and salvage. "Yay rigs will be availible as soon as I salvage this crap. Oh wait I have to loot first? Screw that noise, the loot aint worth jack. Hey ccp can you fix it so I don't have to loot my crap to get the good stuff?" Poof, CCP delivers. Funny thing though suddenly you couldn't shoot at people salvaging your wrecks. Hmmmmmmm. Yeah they never EVER changed loot rules. Never.
Oh and salvage used to take up quite a bit of room in your hold.

I never said that, i said they never changed in regards to salvage. Back then if i looted the wreck anyone could salvage it and i wouldn't get rights to shoot them, but yes i still had to loot the wreck before they could salvage it. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Edited by: Fullmetal Jackass on 02/10/2009 14:26:14 Yeah that was fine, I had to loot my wreck before anyone could salvag it. Supported the whole "salvagers are the new garbage men" collecting abandoned wrecks in space.
I think they didn't realize how lucrative salvage would be. "Garbage men" died out some due to the theft flag, but mostly because the loot was so worthless. The final nail in the coffin was making loot cans un-probable. Collecting garbage was a complete waste of time after that. There just wasn't enough to be found.
The whole "salvage is free for all" stuff is crap though. As easy as it is to scan ships down with the new probe system, and salvager getting concord protection to take wrecks that aren't abandoned, people have turned salvaging into griefing for free. Not cool.
At least the orginal garbage men had to either find abandoned loot, or dodge fire for stealing.

I don't think CCP anticipated Suddenly Ninjas/Ninja Salvagers. And when it happened CCP looked carefully at the type of game they had made (Brutal/Competative/Combative) and its goals (Players in space interacting) and went with the ninjas.
I suggest you change your name to Fullmetal Carebear, your whole character concept isn't working here dude.

There we go, that's what I'm talkin' about.
I'll agree, that's probably exactly what happened. As for brutal, it's decidedly mild. "I'm gonna go try and hurt someones feelings". That's little girl stuff. Competative, yeah in a way, if you like rigged contests. Combative? That would require combat wouldn't it? More like antagonistic.
