Tell your friend to take a deep look at his life if he plans on spending that kind of monies on internet pixels.
Ego boost all you want about being wealthy, it is an incredibly poor way to waste your money. Tell your friend to invest in real estate, he'd be far better off and if he has kids (he's rich so some hot chicks are gonna want to crawl all over him for his money) they can play EVE forever. He could amass an army of EVE pilots to do his bidding, making an unstoppable allaince with unlimited ISK, powered by PLEXÖ.
But that's only if he's not an idiot and invests in real estate.

Umm... Considering the market... I'd say no.
Unless he finds a place with low property tax and he can pay it all off in one go and that he plans to live there then yes.
Otherwise if I had $100,000 go is buy $25,000 in a money market, $25,000 in physical gold, $25,000 in stocks and $25,000 in cash. This is not financial advice. ;)
I wouldn't spend more than $100 on plex a year unless I won the lotto and had a few million, but then I would be a ninja about it and not let anyone know.

The people replying with 'you shouldn't spend the money on a game because something else is important' are idiots. Obviously you have never come into substantial amounts of money (probably never will either) and as such wouldn't be able to comprehend why someone would do such a thing.
To put it another way, what you consider a large sum of money is just pocket change to some of us. Our 'entertainment' budgets, extravagant to mere working class society slaves, are called 'excessive', 'inappropriate' or even 'sickening' by those who can only relate from a position of impotence.
So if the guy wants to dump his entertainment dollars on a game, then so be it. Some retorts since I am feeling bored:
1. To the person/people who say it is a waste of money and the money could be better used feeding the hungry: - It isn't his fault people are poor, lazy or downtrodden so why should he be responsible to fix their situation?
2. To the person/people who suggested investing it in some useless endeavor: - Hate to tell you this but your advice just sucks. Chances are he knows how to invest money better than you do, after all he has it and you don't. Those of us who know how to make money don't need advice from the lemmings that we manipulate.
3. To everyone, understand that money has no value, especially to those of us who do have it. You have been conned into believing money is something of importance; it is the way society keeps you a slave. Once you understand the true value of money you can release yourself from the bonds that shackle you into a life that is useless, unimportant and indirectly controlled by another entity.
So power to the guy, but he would probably be better off hiring a team of people to sell off all the gtcs.
Mind you, 100k isn't all that much tbh.

Best use of $100,000 in Eve:
Rent a real world office, network some computers, create a bunch of accounts, hire some minimum wage workers, and have instant "ops" at your beck and call of whatever flavors you prefer. Mining ops, POS warfare, Suicide Ganks, Gate camps, Roams, etc.
Get other players to join your corp/alliance for even more help and fun. Because there is always something fun and social going on, you'll have tons of player participation, probably to the point that your employees are far outnumbered.
By the time you run out of salary money, you'll have such an active social corp (and be fabulously isk-wealthy from your employees' farming) that you won't need the employees anymore.

For that much money you could probably buy your own isk farming company and have unlimited amounts of isk, instead of being limited to a mere quadrillion.

Money markets and Gold are currently poor guys. Holding cash is not a good buyu so gold MIGHT be better, stocks and bonds are okay, and other de-valued commoditys should be good to invest in atm.. Buying gold at it's peak isnt probably a great idea, sure there might be 5% more growth, but there's likely to be about a 25% drop by this time next year. ----------- Never Forget |

Uh, you should probably change the thread title to go along with that. It still says he inherited it.

Edited by: AF 447 on 03/10/2009 05:45:02 With that money I would buy cars, or invest in something cooler. Getting that amount of isk in a game will make it seriusly boring and probably frustating once you start making bad desicions. Also it would be worst if someone steals from a corp he gonna make 3/4 of your "money" from the inside of your "isk company". And consider that will suck if CCP M3GA bans all you corp, accounts, etc etc....
Just buy what you need in the basis.

First off, your tl;dr fails. You would have had to read in order to, as you put, 'bolded' the quote. The 'revelation of being an idiot' is another fail; with truth be told that I was right, as usual. At least I point out in a clear concise manner where you are an idiot.
As for being 'rich', your self claim is fine as you can define what rich is and isn't by your own standard. By my own standard on the other hand, I doubt that you are, even with mommy and daddy's help. You see whereas independently wealthy people have full control of their finances, spoiled brats still have to beg for the handouts....
Notes: Siig indicated later on in the thread that this individual became wealthy through investing...

Someone who can cut it as a trader in reality, yet also too incompetent to amass wealth through simplified game trading.
Much more satisfying to cheat through it.
I also doubt the credibility of an investor who can't figure out the difference between a trillion, quintillion, and 'zillion'.
tl;dr: You're all getting trolled. |

It is fun to entertain absurd things like this. On a serious note, would whoever he inherited this money from want him to spend their money like that? Most people that leave money to someone when they die have an expectation that the person inheriting their money will appreciate it. Spending $100,000 on virtual money for the novelty of it doesn't seem very appreciative. Get a little more out of the money than that, or donate it to someone who will. Also see,
