Sup guys. So, funny story, there I was, travelling the market and what not... when I came across some weird prices. An item being sold by 500k and at the same time being bought at 1,2kk? As an experiment I bought the 500k item and tried to sell it at 1.2kk, and i couldn't. When I tried to sell the item it always went for the next price, not the 1.2kk.. Can someone explain what's happening?

Yeah this happened to me once and I got screwed out of 1B isk because of it. Basically the guy doesn't have the money to cover the buy order. He is using a skill called margin trading. Did you notice that the minimum order he will accept is 4,200 units? Did you also notice that there are, conveniently 4,300 units for sale at 664K each? The same person is offering the units for sale and offering the big buy order. What he wants you to do is buy ALL of the units for sale at 664K and then try to fill the buy order. But you won't be able to fill the buy order because he won't have enough isk to cover the transaction. CCP told me this was a "feature" not an "exploit" so be glad you only got off buying two units. |

Not at all, I just bought one for 500k and tried to sell, Ended it buying 2 for 1,7kk. Just a minor sit back, gotta learn some way.. |

but you paid 500K for the first one and 1.2M for the 2nd one.
Also, he just had a minimum amount on the buy order as stated before.

Simple rule: Anything with a minimum buy order quantity greater than 1 is a margin trading scam, there are nearly no exceptions to this rule. |

A minimum order can be used by those that have set a buy order over multiple systems and don't want to waste time picking up small stacks. The best defense is to pay close attention to the order and the market for the item in question, if it's too good to be true... |
