Edited by: iRock on 31/10/2004 14:40:52 Mate of mine wants to play eve but cannot even startup the login screen. All that appears is a window with vertices blown up to all directions. After two hours of staring to this trippy and strange form of art we figured out this is not the real game :)
He has a Ati R9700. Latest Ati drivers installed .... burned cache folder multiple times ... All other directx application work without any problems.
Also tried the omega drivers to no avail.
Anyone have a clue?

Edited by: DaRuLe on 31/10/2004 19:35:32 I've got the same issue from time to time. After restarting the computer the problem is solved.
When playing, the framerate suddenly droppes dramatically and the amazing pixelshading feature begins.
Behold my soup here and here

To me, my gut feeling is that there is possibly some hardware conflictions going on, can't be sure though, but I'd check if there are any conflictions on the system. ___________________ I live to mine! |

Tjeck if he has problems with over directx 9 games, hes GFX card might work with directx 8 but still have problems with some of the instructions in DirectX 9.
If you don't have the posibility to test another DirectX 9 game then go and download the lastest 3Dmark program as i think thats running DirectX 9.
This way you should be able to test if its a hardware problem or not, also some of the older ATI cards and some motherboards might have some problems with AGP x8, try and set it to x4 in both BIOS and in driver and disable fastwrite also as this might solve the problem
Also deleting everything in the GameDir/Cache might also do the trick if you havent tryed that.

I just installed the game and have something that looks the same as your's. I can't login becuase I can't see anything, at first it loads fine, then it goes black and says "scroll to bottom" so I use my mouses scroll, and it brings up what looks like the login screen(last time I played was in beta, so I can kinda see certain things from my faded memory).
The interface seems to "work" but I can't really tell what's going on, nothing is readable beyond the "scroll to bottom" part.
My system is an Athlon64 3000+ with a Radeon 9800 XT, Windows XP with SP2. Of all my games, this is the only one that doesn't work. So far.

OK after much testing and altering of my drivers, nothing fixed it....
UNTIL! I did the one thing I didn't think would work, I put eve to run in Compadibility mode for Windows 98/Me. Works fine so far, hopefully this fixes everyone's problem here.

Just a Thought - I run Eve on 1 of my comps gfx card 9700pro - windows XP, sr2 with the latest catalyst Drivers and no problems at all. ( yeah lucky me) But the point being I do NOT run the eye candy /hydravision progs. They are imho worthless and cause more angst than anything else - yeah even the nvidia ones 2.
An initially easy way to see if it helps is to open up your task manager (rclick on empty spar on task bar select task manager or Ctrl Alt Del ) Select Processes tab. and look for anything with ati in them - simply highlight and end process. then try running game. this may well work but the progs do leave traces in memory. and should really be disabled on start up (ie no loading = no trace) blackviper.com has a very good section in optimisation of you your gaming machine .

blackviper rocks, which in point I have nothing running in the background I don't need. I am curious if the others who have this problem are running a VIA chipset with their ATi cards? ______________ In the beginning God created balls, then man played with them. This became known as Sports. |
