Okie guys its been almost 3-4 years since I have played and I have been trying to research a good ship that I can take into 0.0 for some fun and if jumped can hold my own. Skill points is not an issue. What do you guys think would make a good multi purpose 0.0 ship to roam in solo? Sorry for the nubness.

Ishtar ftw
Past that: Zealot Vagabond Harbinger Hurricane - the ammo becomes an issue pretty quickly though

I would say a Curse, but coming back from a 4 year hiatus and jumping into a Curse is a bad idea. A BC would be a good choice until you feel comfortable enough to go for a Curse.

Edited by: xxxak on 09/10/2009 23:12:01 Vagabond is still good, although maybe no longer king.
Curse, but its not the easiest to use.
Pilgrim or Rapier, but again, not super easy and only OK vs some targets.
Nano Hurricane is cheap and moves pretty well, but will get caught in a big camp.
Id advise against Harbinger or Zealot, they are not the best solo and/or are too slow with plates and buffer.
BTW: Active tanking is NOT the current fad. Buffer tank is. But solo, active tank is still viable I guess...

So if I went with the curse what kinda of setup should run? Also if this is considered a advanced ship skill wise should i spend some time in a bc first?

A properly fit and flown taranis can take on 9/10 ships in 0.0, its agile fast and only 27mil a POP, if u hit a big camp tht ain't runnable, eg arazu/lachesis neuts and inties, ull make it back to the gate most of the time if ur cautious about session change.
If not take out the closest tackler and kiss ur ship goodbye. :)

For the heavier options, I suggest:
Hyperion.. but only if u got uber skills and can invest in some faction mods.
Other than that T2 fit Abaddon is really nice, just buffer tank it.
Also if you are solo you should use either EV or EC drones, they will save you from numerous ganks. So stay away from caldari boats, there are a few exceptions though.

I use curse, sacriledge, and hurricanes almost exclusively in 00. There's not much that a curse cant completely neutralize, best solo-cloaker***-ratterkiller ship i know of.
A dual rep HAM Sac can out-tank, out-cap AND/OR outrun most small gangs, I ve had this ship neuted, nos'ed, webbed, scrammed and still won/got away/stalemated the typical small gang. It perma mwd's and dual reps even with a couple neuts/nos on it. Even all that plus jammed, ive had small cheapfleet and nanohac gangs just give up trying to kill it
And the Cane is dirtcheap and can be fit to do just about EVERYTHING well, easily the best utility ship around.

If you can get familiar with particular areas like curse or stain you can have a blast in cyclones and brutixes =)
Other wise I'm still nanoing my ishtar, it handles well which is the real key.
I don't use them, but I'd agree that vaga, curse, pilgrim, rapier, and zealot are pretty shnazzy these days too.
I REALLY love nano bc's though, I've only got to play with a nano harb and I was really impressed tbqh. I'm told the nano cane is even more insane
On the general though, buffer is hotter than active tanks.
Oh I suppose you could try a T3 if you're feeling fancy. Idk which one... they don't deal tons of dps but its definitely a different experience.
I read the forums assuming there are no trolls, only really stupid people.

Harb and Zealot can be given a shield buffer/nano fit which isn't slow...I find the Harb very easy to use in fleet fights, even with a plate buffer.
And yes, active tanking is generally inefficient in 0.0 now since blob style DPS just gets through too easy, but it's very viable in small gang/solo work.
