all these taxes, brokers fees and so on and the way it is calculated (skill level) makes my head explode.
i need an example so that i can bookmark it and use it in future.
lets skip opportunity costs (hauling etc) to keep it simple.
say i buy 1 bil trit @2.30 via regionwide buy order set up in a station i have +10 corp standing and 9.6 faction standing. i then sell it to a buy order at a different station (same standings) @2.80.
whats my profit. how do i calculate it?

Tax=SalePrice*(0.01-(AccountancySkill*0.001))
That's what I worked out for my logistics spreadsheet some time ago, haven't actually rechecked it so hope it's right otherwise my operations have been a lot less (or more!) profitable than I've been thinking :D

Pay broker fees when setting up a buy order or a sell order. Pay sales tax whenever something is sold.
So tax is paid regardless of whether you sell via a sell order or straight to someone else's buy order. Broker fees are only paid whenever you set up an order (buy or sell).
If you really want to just keep it simple then consider 3% of your sale price lost (1% for setting up the original buy order, 1% for the new sell order, 1% for tax). Therefore if there's a 5% margin between your purchase price and your sale price you've made a 2% profit. As illustrated above, skills and standings can make a significant difference to this.

seems that i still do something wrong.
with the above example (buying via own order and selling TO an order), standings and prices...(skills at IV):
fee would be 0.47/unit and tax 0.0162/unit
price diff - (fee + tax) = - 0.088
do i really make a loss? although the sell price (well, the price i sell to) is about 17.4% more than my buy price?

Edited by: Tekota on 10/10/2009 11:05:27 I suspect you've got a decimal place out or something on the broker fees. The tax calculation looks what I'd expect.
EDIT: Just thought - when you're setting up a buy order it'll tell you the exact percentage that's going on broker fees having calculated all the standings and the like already. Apply that percentage to your buy price and you're set.

broker fee formula gives the broker fee in percent (the tax formula doesn't)
