It is my experience that if you have a slow computer, the longer range ship the better... I actually run a PIII 933 with 1/2 gig of ram and a MX440 vid card. While not pretty it does work... the scary part of this though, i actually run chars on the same system. Anybody else out there a pilot with slow a$$ computer? If so, what do you fly. Me... It's a kessie or a caracal. ______________________________________________________________________
What can I say i like to get friendly... I'm a Blasterax Pilot!!! |

I was under the impression that the current eve client draws all polygons in a ship regardless of range.

I thought so to however when I was approaching a gate someday I saw a npc ship disappear as I zoomed out and not in such a way that it might have been drawn just really really small. __________ Capacitor research |

One thing good about being far of with a crap comp is that the ships aren't moving so fast on the screen. Me for instance, I never use frigs in fleet battles (20+ ships) simply because the lag makes it impossible for me to target stuff when going so fast (unless I use the scanner). That'll change once I get a faster pc.
If you're looking for ships with above average locking range, check out the caldari ones. You should probably be in one of those anyway since they pwn
edit: And you're right, distance does ease things up a bit. Zooming out to maximum range with your camera in a battle makes things way smoother.

For a crap comp you want to tank as much as possible. EW and pure offense doesn't work well on a slow computer becuase you might end up dead before you get to activate your modules. But you can turn on hardeners before you warp into combat, so that helps.

All kind of what i figured... i tired the blasterax thing and got pwned by some stupid rats just because of the lag ... using caracal now and owning everything 0.1 and above . Good news... I'm buying myself a christmas present... 2.8 775 p4 with 1/2 gig of DDR2 and western diggy 37 gig raptor . Ought to work a little better than the P3 933 eh? ______________________________________________________________________
