Ok, my Moa bit the dust, and I decided to mess with my Thorax for a while. I have never used the Thorax NPC and thought it would be a fun change. So I fitted it up and took it out in a 0.5. Now, I don't remember exactly how it was fitted (I'm at work) I think it was something like this:
High's 4 x Electron Blaster I 1 x Ion Blaster I 1 x Nuetron Blaster I
Meds Medium Cap Battery I Cap Recharger I 10MN MWD I
Low's Medium Armor Repairer I Magnetic field Stabalizer I PDU II's
Ok, I know it's not very good but it's what I had lying around. So I go to a belt, 4 frigates spawn. I approach on AB and start orbiting. I varied MWD on/off, and distance from the frigates. Now, that the heck is wrong with this? I have about a million and a half points in gunnery. What the heck? I had to warp away from 4 frigs in a 0.5 in a thorax! What am I doing wrong? It was pathetic!

Your 250mm 'Scout' Accelerator Cannon perfectly strikes Serpentis Soldier, wrecking for 319.4 damage. |

This game happens to have a problem with Med guns against frigates... well anything other than light guns IMO... Its ok though it makes frigs worthwhile. To hit frigates the blasters will have a hard time hitting anything without a Web. Any blaster ship should be using one. Personally I find neutrons annoying, im perfectally happy using just Ion's. They do plenty of damage and have easier fitting requirements. Honestly there is no real need to orbit at all, you want to keep your transversal low when dealing with smaller targets. However once something is webbed I hit frigates with a MEGA pulse on a regular bases so I suggest equipping one. ~~ Hyey
I just payed 15 dollars this month just to be able to respond on the forums... stupid cancellation error.

High:
5 small neutron blasters.
Med:
MWD Webber Cap recharger
Low:
Med armor repair 1600mm armor plate Energized adaptive nano (So you don't have to change plates everytime you go hunt something new) The rest your choice.

I have a Thorax setup that get can a bit pricey but is very much worth the financial risks. Works nicely for npc, and is fairly easy to adapt to PvP. Setup is: \ HIGHS 5X Tech 2 SMALL neutron blasters (yes, small, you will see why). antimatter charges. If you do not have the skills for T2 hybrids, simply buy named neutrons. Maybe Regulated Light Neutron Phase Cannons.
MEDS 1X 'Langour" webby, or whatever is the best webby you can get your hands on. 1X10mn MWD 1X Barton Reactor Capacitor, or a warp disruptor for PvP. This is a fairly optional final slot.
LOWS 1X Med Armor Repairer (preferably named) - if there is no CPU or PG, swap for something else. with the 1600s it is better to just take a pounding, because youa re counting on your paltes to get you up close.) 1X 1600mm Rolled Tungsten plates (these are expensive, but are a major factor in this setup. this is why you only fit the small guns) 1XCap relay 2
DRONE BAY (HUGE FACTOR) depending on your skills and what you are facing, equip hammerhead mediums or Ogres for PvP/bs PvP. ---------
The pen and the sword are inexorably linked. |
