Go to Map. Click on system. Click on "Add BM".
BM appears in your people and places folder.
As I read somewhere.....
Severe And Moses was content to dwell with the man:and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter. And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom:for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land. |

we'll theres several ways to make a so called safe spot. 1) you can drop a bm while in warp and then warp back to the bm. I like to use this method. Although i like to drop a bm warp to it, then warp to another object from the bm and drop another bm, do that a few times and you have a fairly good safe spot. 2) you can open your map then right click on the system you want the bm in and make a bm that way. I think it will say add location or something along those lines when you right click on the system while in the map.
be advised when making a bm that way everyone who does that is warping to the same location, the only differance is they come out of warp at differant spots depending on where they run out of cap. That type of bm is fairly easy to find, well the right player with enough patience can find most safe spots.
safespots are not as safe as most think. that about wraps up making safespots.
enjoy

Always make a safespot from another safespot. Those are pretty much impossible to find--if you're 5 AU away from everything else and not in line no number of MWDs will get someone to you within any reasonable number of weeks. -- The best description of alliances, ever:

Bookmark. When you "make a bookmark" you tell the client to mark that spot you've just been in, or where that asteroid, cargo container, station, etc. is, and give you an object in your "Bookmarks" tab in the People and Places window. You can right-click on bookmarks to warp to them, to set destinations, and so on.
Safespot is when people create a bookmark that is far from any planet or object in the system. They can warp to it because they have the bookmark, and no one else can warp becuase they don't have it and there's nothing around that location they can use to "warp to".

When I right-click on a solar-system in the Map (F11) it only allows me to set a BM (bookmark) to that solar system (and does not allow me to specify a location in that solar-system).
Am I missing something here, or has the functionality changed recently or anything like that?

Yes, the "deep space bookmark" trick exploits that effect of bookmarking a system. You see, when you bookmark a planet or station, the bookmark takes you towards it. However, when you bookmark a solar system, the bookmark takes you directly away from the sun and into deep space infinity. So people are exploiting that feature, because you're not going towards anything, you're just going out into space. It theoretically makes it harder to track you.
In practice however, EVERYONE is being sent in the same direction, it's not random. So in effect the pirate following can do exactly the same thing you did, bookmark the system and warp to the bookmark, and he will be following the exact path you took. All he has to do is figure out where you stopped (and that can be calculated by the ship type you have (plus skills), since its capacitor affects the distance you can warp).
