(Again) Jesus I thought with a new fresh computer and better hardware this wouldn't happen. But the same Fallout3 I bought off Steam when they had it on sale, even with Games for windows live installed and everything up to date, crashes after I hit New Game.
Any help?

Sounds like above poster is on the ball on this one. I would just suggest the usual, first port-of-call for Vista...set "Run as Administrator" and/or "XP Compatibility" mode. -------------

Not really sure how to go about this, searching my computer doesn't turn up anything under k-lite or FLV.

Do you have any Codecs at all installed? The issue is to do with the ingame movies not playing friendly with Codecs. Some codecs try to interfere with the ingame movies and as such crash the computer. Fddshow is the main culprit. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Unless Eve, Starcraft, Half life 2 (and episodes), TF2, L4D, Heroes of Newerth or WoW installed them then I havn't gone out to get them, just google K-lite codec packs and get them? ---- My Music

Yeah. Might as well, then find FDDSHOW video and add fallout3.exe to ther exclusion list and see if that helps

Download the K-Lite Codec pack and install it for now, and then find fddshow on your computer, There should be a Video version with settings and you should be able to add an exclusion for the fallout process. See if that has any effect. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

try running the executable directly, not the launcher.
make sure you run as admin. try compat mode on top of all that if it doesn't work ---------- Anyway, I'm sorry, but that just happens to be how *I* feel about it. What do you think? |

I downloaded k-lite codec pack, I went into FDDSHOW Video Configuration and went to "Only use FDDSHOW in" and added Fallout 3 to the list, because there was a "Don't use FDDSHOW in" list with Fallout3 in it, and no way to get rid of it without resetting everything else in there, that I'm afraid of doing. ---- My Music

Dude, I think you must have missed something..
Try this:
http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=897990
install that program and disable ALL THE CODECS and then try.
As per that forum post.

Once DDO Finishes installing I got a CCC Codec pack that I'm gonna try out, the thing is it was crashing with only stock codecs. So if I'm reading this right this will disable all codecs.

Have you tried:
Running as Administrator. Running in XP Compatibility mode. Reinstalling Fallout 3 completely.
??
I would advise doing all three of those before you get to far involved with trying to fix it in other ways. If you HAVE done these, not sure what I can offer that the other forum posters didn't already mention bro. Good game, hope you get it working. If the exclusion is Fallout3.exe then add a new one as fallout3.exe (Without the capitalization) if the other way around, do the opposite.

I'm preety sure since this is my computer and I really havn't set any restrictions on my computer account wise that I always run as administrator, or I at least have all the important, non-lethal options opened to me without going into BIOs. I've had this exact same problem on XP, and that is why I'm so ****ed off that it doesn't work on Vista. And on Xp I redownloaded it and reinstalled it 4 times, FOUR TIMES.
and I'm preety sure it was "fallout3.exe" ---- My Music

With Vista, even if you are logged on as Administrator, you still dont have full permissions, you need to right click the program and 'Run as Administrator'.
That said, Fallout 3 is boring tbh, play Morrowind
