Edited by: Navon Sky on 09/11/2004 03:42:39 Hi, I just bought a new computer to be able to use dual monitors in eve an this is what happens: After all the driver installations and so on I started up eve.. and WOW! just went from 10 fps to 70 outside station. This was on my primary screen, then i draged it to my secondary screen and then all hell broke loose. My cpu is running at 100% all the time, and i'm lagging so much. I run them in window mode at 1280x1024 on this computer:
AMD 3500+ 64bit 2GB pc 3200 400Mhz Dual channel ram Geforce 6800 Ultra 256Mb (dual monitor) Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939 motherboard 2 x LG FLATRON L1915S 2 x Maxtor 200GB S-ATA disks (raid)
What am i doing wrong?
---UPDATE--- I found a way to do it that works great. If you have a dual monitor setup, just split the screens instead of useing dual monitors. Now use a resolution like 2560*1024 ((1280*2)*1024) then two accounts running 1280*1024 can be played as if it were on a sigle monitor. It's GREAT! :)

& before you go shouting your mouth off @ ccp, this is a microsoft problem and nothing at all to do with eve....
DirectX does not support directdraw on a 2nd display.
Some cards get around this by using 2 adaptors in the display list (ATi) or making windows think it has a huge display that fits over 2 monitors (nVidia)

Flat out......
there is a sacrifice for running more than one monitor no matter how good your single processor puter is.
more monitors = more lag and slower performances as there is simply more info it needs to process in order to get it to work well.
go with obvious standard upgrades......
dual processor mother boards(server grade)
highest bandwidth connection available
run as much RAM as possible in board.
use the baddest video card out there.
use a seperate video processor per monitor, ie use one card per monitor weather the card has dual monitor capability(yes this requires using multiple PCI cards and most likely leaving your IGP slot empty and may require special bios lvl options)
you are simply going to have a bigger small fortune(not that you hadn't on your current system and i drool/envy) to get a great performing dual(or more) monitor set up

You may as well buy another computer, and hook it up to the other monitor. Would probably work out cheaper than going down the multiprocessor / multi-gfx card route IMO...

I'm confused, I have an AMD64 3200+ a Gig of PC3200 and a 9600XT AIW...I run dual monitors, two seperate clients at the same time and all I had to do was select the secondary monitor for the 2nd clent in the esc menu.
Seemed pretty simple to me...I'm getting 40+fps on both monitors...what exactly is the issue?
