Ok this goes back to 2006 and I have yet to witness something like this again. I started playing in July of 06 and to be nice, I let my ex's son, 17 at the time, have an account too. It was an MMO household for the most part.
So we were playing the game one night and did a mission. He was training up to get into "bigger is better" fast, so was flying a BC in short order.
At the end of the mission, being such a nooblet, he thinks it's WOW and wants to duel with me. I was not in his corp, a corp of pirate-wannabee nooblets who fought each other, but he ignored that criminal dialog thinking it was just a warning.
Right when I was saying "I don't think that's such a good......"
He get a well administered dose of CONCORD - no lube, POP goes the BC.
Now he's ****ed, cause he just got it. But he has ISK, see, so he flies to the nearest station, complaining the whole way, buy another BC, and then buys up modules in other stations.
He undocks to go get those modules, knowing nothing about the aggression timer..(being a nooblet)...
POP goes the BC
So now he's complaining in local, and some other players, being nice, give him lots of ISK. Seriously, someone gave him 50 million ISK - out of pity or a desire to shut him up I don't know.
He beamed over that, big time. Tried to rub my nose in it, because I did have a good laugh about getting popped by CONCORD that second time.
So next day, we play again, but at the same time, not together. I was off doing something else in my noobship.
He takes his shiney new BC and wants to go join up with his pirate-wannabee corp mates.....
on autopilot but this was before WTZ....
into....
Amamake
Pop goes the BC
Here it comes:
"That's it!!!! I don't wanna play this game any more!!! This SUCKS!!!!"
Naturally, as if by instinct, I asked if I could have his stuff.
Have yet to see such an entertaining ragequit.

I scanned down a guy doing L4 missions in a Raven 0.4, and just popped in. Believe it or not, I wasn't planning on attacking him or stealing his wrecks... it was the first mission I'd ever scanned down, and I pretty much just wanted to see how it was done.
I was in a falcon, just for fun, basically, and the instant I appear, he starts targetting me. I figure that a Raven would probably wipe the floor with me, but he's got a scrambler, so instead of turning tail and running I decided to at least give a good account of myself.
I figure I'd come in just at the end of the mission, and he was checking wrecks or something as there were no NPCs.
Damned if I know how the guy had his ship fitted, but I'd burned through his shields in a couple of minutes, and was half-way through his armour when the chat request pops up. He starts cursing and making threats about how he's going to war-dec me, with his one-man corp (I was in a 1-man corp myself at the time) - I'd stopped firing by this point - and since my tank is holding nicely, I ask him if he'd like to donate to my Golem fund and keep his ship.
At this point (he's back up to about 1/2 shields) he tells me he's going to wipe the floor with me, which is amusing, so I start firing again. Five minutes later, his Raven pops, his pod warps out and I check his loot, to find that it's all rubbish, so I left it there... but it seems he had his Raven fitted for salvaging, rather than combat... which explained the easy kill.
Next thing I know, he's telling me how he's going to petition me for unfair play, and "how's it going to fell to lose your account?" - I just closed the chat window, cloaked, and waited for him to come back with his badger 2 to loot his wreck, which he does, and pop that too.
He spends the next half hour adding 0.1 isk to my wallet every second or two, and sends me an in-game mail telling me how I've made him quit the game. Haven't seen him since.
Most amusing part, from my perspective... I didn't have a warp scrambler fitted. He could have warped out at any time. Guess it never occurred to him to try.

Classic PVP bluff. Many players simply assume they have been scrambled if someone engages them, especially if you apply any other sort of ewar to them (I guess it's kinda like the towel effect...). -----

I am a 6 year plus beta player that bought the recent retail version and created this alt. When you create a new account you get access to the ôRookieö channel for 30 days. I found myself for the next month, while my alt was training learning skills, helping the ISD volunteers answer questions from the noobs.
I had about 30 private conversations with new players, adding them to my buddies list steering them to Sister Alitura, teaching about rigs and trying to explain why there were no asteroids to mine in 1.0 systems. I gave millions of ISK to about half of them when they got can flipped, popped in low security or suicide ganked.
Four and a half months later, not one of the 30 is still logging on.

since they noticed that any time one of those lists is published rating countries for whatever we place above them.

Ah dang, too bad I was not among them. I started playing when the retail box came out, which must've been six or seven months ago, and I am still playing.
Though the fact that I went for industry instead of combat and haven't lost anything valuable yet, might have something to do with that... Perhaps it's also common sense, like I have never been to losec yet.
I haven't seen enough of EVE yet to know about any ragequits, though I did pick up a corpse just outside Cistuvaert station once (Cistuvaert is one of the Gallente starter stations). -----

ahh, this is one of my favorite stories.
a long while ago (year or 2) i was roaming through insmother and the surrounding areas in a rifter for giggles. i ran into a rorqual outside of a station in siege mode. next to him were 6 jetcans. after i opened one and saw it was full of compressed crokite, i immediately blew up all of them.
laughing to myself, i continued on my merry way. i decided to swing back through there on my way back home, and lo and behold, he was at it again. this time, 5 full cans. *pop*
the next day, for giggles, i decided to go back there again. believe it or not, there he was. only 4 cans this time. they all popped
this continued on for a good 5-6 days, after which the guy convos me and starts yelling in poorly translated english about how i was "EVIL SCUMMMM" and whatnot.
i simply replied: im coming back every day from now on.
i then added him to my adressbook.
2 years later, i still havent seen him log on since. i guess half a mil m3 of compressed crokite will do that to a guy
want a sig? thats great! post it in response to my posts!

Having said that... while it can be fun to watch a twit pop his cork over a computer game, ragequits probably aren't the best way to keep the game ticking over.
Not that I'm condoning the introduction of Hug-A-Miner-Tuesdays or anything... but I do feel a bit guilty when someone decides they've had enough because of something I did in-game, even if that wasn't my intention.

I have been killed several times my self and normally when i pop in my bs or such the pirates start the smack talk. It's mostly amuseing cause they think i'm mad with my low sp (2m) in my battleship. They think im broke now and ****ed about it.
When i compliment them on their nice kill, they normally get confused and sometimes even sad. Griefer's live for others tears, give them no tears and they are confused and sad. Respectfully,

It might be because that this is my first and prolly last MMO I will ever play, but I would never rage quit over stuff like the above. From the first day I started playing EVE it got hammered into me that you could lose your stuffÖ here within seconds and then it all be gone. Never put all your eggs in 1 basket. Don't fly what you cannot afford to lose, etc. etc. etc.
It's probably something CCP should address with new players, remove that false sense of safety from day one. You are no-where safe, ever. If you have your mind set that what you fly now may be an egg 3-6 seconds later, you'll never get so enraged/ disappointed that you (rage)quit. Say (to yourself) ****, make a mental note what went wrong and how to prevent it from next time happening and move on. No-one really cares.
At least that is my personal p.o.v.
To the OP: quite mean of you not giving better information to your ex's son about the gcc. Then again, you probably don't care either.

Well i don't really do the pvp thing, unless it's forced on me, but i do remember this one guy in a rax.
I was flying around in low sec in me NH minding my own business when this guy (i allready saw him undocking in the same system so i knew he was flying a rax) warped in on me while i was doing in a few npc's in a belt.
He offcourse starts to target me and even starts pecking at me with his... 150mm T1 guns... say what? yep... frig guns on a cruiser... now i tell him in local to **** of, but he keeps on shooting, so i give him a dose of kinetic warheads up his tailpipe and his lil rax goes up in flames (i never scrambled him so he could have warped away anytime... he tells me in local after a minute he was just testing his ship and never planned on... destroying me... silly noob... ________________________________________________

Edited by: Ranger 1 on 18/10/2009 17:54:16 I don't know if he ended up rage quitting, or simply moved, but we had a macro ratter in our 0.0 territory that used to try and bring in ammunition via Badgers using a script that made them log off if anyone else was in system.
Once we saw what was happening we easily found ways to trap and kill these Badgers full of Torpedoes, and kept ourselves well supplied with what survived.
Eventually he saw fit to contact us and rage at us via a bad translator program. We had several communications full of things like "Bad evil robbers make to Thunderfish Thunderfish flash bang bang, NO! NO!" (who knew Torpedo translated to "Thunderfish", took us a little while to figure that one out).
Eventually our free supply shipments of Torpedoes ceased, and he disappeared from our space. His Thunderfish, err presence, will be sorely missed.
