Heh, the first thing that crossed my mind when I heard about the story was that he was hiding in an attic as I did that once when I was his age after I broke something rather exspensive and knew I'd get pummled for it. Totally ignored people calling my name for an entire day and only came out when I had to take a dump. Still got pummled. Dunno if it is a scam as it would fit the scenario of him accidentally cutting loose the ballon then running to hide. Though of course if the husband and wife were on wifeswap you can't discount the obvious pr angle. I sense an apperance on Maury soon.

Watch the video on that link, I think its pretty straightforward... when asked why he didn't answer when he heard his dad and mom calling the kid says "but you guys told me it was for a show", (or something close to that). The good thing about kids that young is that, for the most part, they are honest. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

I called it a scam yesterday afternoon after I learned about the parents. As I said earliein the other thread about this, they kid was faining sleep this morning in a family interview. after a few minutes of the father getting grilled the kid started getting figity. He then said he felt like he was going to throw up. He proceeded to cover his mouth and puke on national TV.

Well they are likely going to hit with some major fines, likely going to get a visit from child services too for using their children (likely wont get their kids taken away but get a scare or two). I feel sorry for the kids though, having parents like that is really going to screw with their morals. On an unrelated note, Kneel before Zod! |

There was a later part of the interview where they want the kid to clarify what he meant by "we did it for the show" and the dad gets all ****ed.

Yeah, the whole thing makes me want to get some balloons and float some kids into the sky with them myself. Jeez, if you want a job doing properly, you gotta do it yourself...

Easy to say with hindsight I guess, but still, how dumb is the Dad to throw the question over to a little kid if the whole thing was a hoax. There was no need to involve the kid in the conversation at that point.
And what the hell have the police been up to in all this? Blindly supporting the family 100% throughout? Surely a couple of minutes of lightweight police questioning should have got the truth out of the kid much earlier. Also, if you are going to use millions? of $ of resources on a national scale, wouldn't you also order a thorough search locally just in case?
