PVE
1. To Ease new players into eve and to help them learn the game. 2. To make isk 3. To make Pirate tears.
PvP
1. To Erase new players from eve and make them leave the game. 2. To make isk (or to lose it) 3. To make Carebear Tears.
Seems balanced to me. Continue on. ------------------------------------------------

Just a small note:
PvP (in the sense of ship-to-ship combat) is an ISK faucet — there is no ISK loss there. PvE (in the sense of interacting with NPCs) can also be an ISK sink — it's not just there to make ISK. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

PVP isn't a faucet. its isk neutral - ignoring insurance (which I personally think should be viewed separately) PVP neither adds nor removes isk from the game.
PVE I suppose COULD be a sink, but only if the person doing the PVE is really incompetant and can't break even. This case is unlikely enough to make it irrelevant.

I view losing ships separately too so PVP has no effect on item destruction.

By that logic, there are no ISK sinks or faucets at all.
PvP is an ISK faucet — choosing to ignore the mechanic that makes its one, doesn't make it any less of a faucet. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

*shrug* Pvpers make isk too.

Pirates are irrelevant.

Yes, pvpers make isk. They managed just fine when the game was more hard core.

Another pessimistic view.

I'll bite on this one, just because i'm bored and have about two hours to kill before I get married (yes, in real life, thank you).
When I first came into the game, I obviously knew nothing. not even how to fire my newb guns or miner. The PVE tutorial (even way back then) helped me understand the very BASIC concepts of the game. The ass hat that told me I could have this free rail-gun so I could sell it and would make extra cash introduced me to the 'other side' of eve. I've been hooked since.
The PVE learning curve, taught me the earthy basics of how to play.. the pirate that was can baiting in a newb system taught me the bloody basics. But w/o the pve aspect, it would have taken me a lot longer to understand the basics and I would have likely died a lot more, and a lot more frequently.
The PVE aspect of the game allows new players and older players to make isk (it has to come from somewhere, and unless you want to pay stupid prices for everything, PVE is needed to keep prices down to a reasonable level).
And once I have a bit saved up, I buy or manufacture (boring) a mess of ships, fit em out and go looking for fights. So w/o the PVE, I'd have little PVP. Yes I know I can make isk from pvp, but tbh I can't be assed to loot and salvage wrecks I make. I'd rather be looking for more fights. Now that I have rambled on and lost my train of thought (I am getting married in 2.5 hours omfg!) I need to go get drunk err.. dressed. ------------------------------------------------

I learned how to manage transversal with guns by running missions. Taught me to watch ranges carefully and determine when taking the time to switch ammo is a good idea, so when I go into PVP I keep an eye on my range and don't fire Multifrequency out of my Zealot at 20km - and I've seen even serious players making PVP videos lose track of that and shoot the wrong ammo. The combat system doesn't magically change when you're in a mission instead of out in low sec, and to imply that there's no relation at all is unbelievably stupid.

^^ This to be quite honest, you make alot of good point Rells, don't become so detached you forgot what it was like to be new, or are you suggestion before you even know to press F1-F8 or what tanking your ship should be using, you should be what PvPing? C'mon... |

Indeed. Missions are like the primer to pvp in that it teaches you all about how to fit your ships and use them in a manner that is enjoyable(for a while at least:p) and profitable plus all that lp can go into faction ammo for teh pew pew. So when they catch the pvp bug they will be familiar with flying and can afford to take a few loses as they get used to shooting at real players and not red crosses. I mean the only real difference between a pvp fit ship and pve is that the pvp ship drops a bit of tank for tackle and usually the ab for a mwd. Besides isn't that what your pvp school does Rells? Take players who know how to fly and teach them to use the ship in pvp situations. I mean wouldn't you guys rather have students that already know all the basics like cap use and how trans effects hit quality etc etc so all you have to do is instill the fighting spirit and teach them to pew pew? Or would you rather have some emogungho loose cannon player who is too adhd to even run a mission or learn to properly fit his ship and just wants to killkillkillkioklklll!!11!!!! as a student?
