When I compare how much I can sell unrefined ore for compared to what the minerals would be worth even if I got 100%, the value of the ore is sometimes more than twice that of the minerals. Am I missing something? Why are people paying so much more for ore when they could buy the equivalent amount of minerals for much less. I'm only talking about the stuff you find in Hi-Sec, I don't know anything about the other Ore. Specifically I noticed the biggest difference between the value of Omber and it's refined minerals. I'm also confused about why (at least where I am) Omber is worth double what Silvery and Golden Omber is worth.

supply and demand. ore is in demand for certain missions, increasing ore's value past what would be gained by refining.

This.
To expand on that: Certain storyline missions require as much as 6 - 10k of certain ores in unrefined formats. However, most mission runners don't want to take time out of their busy days to mine it, so they buy it. This pushes the price on that ore up above what you can get for the minerals it produces. --Vel

You'll see the same difference for Kernite. As it's been mentioned, Omber and Kernite are used in storyline missions in unrefined form, so their price is much higher than the refined components would be. Omber is used in L3 mssions, and Kernite is used for L4 missions.

You're going to see a similar difference in Veldspar, Scordite, omber, and Kernite.
Why? They're used in the various level "Materials for War Preparation" mission.
Veld in L1, Scord in l2, Omber in l3, and Kernite in L4. Those missions only take the base type - not the variants. So those four are going to have increased base prices due to HIGH demand.

Other than that, make a spreadsheet.
Ore-price/batch Mineral-yield/batch (when you do not have perfect refine skills or standings) -> Mineral-price/batch
Done.
And the above statements are all valid and true... also possible to buy the ores needed in mission hubs several jumps away from them, transport them over to the hub and resell with profit... as said, mission runners are lazy as !@#$. I should know, I am one of them.

Thanks for the replies, my main concern was that I was somehow missing something that was costing me ISK. Good to see that I wasn't.
