Hi,
Previously, if you were logged off long enough for your ship to disappear from space, you would log on with full capacitor. After testing it a few times this no longer seems to work on tranquillity, in fact, people have been logging on with *less* cap than they had when they logged off.
Bugged?

From what I noticed it takes longer for the server to realise you logged/disconnected (gut feeling here, sometimes an alt just DC's but I don't see him align/warp away for a while). So I'm guessing that, according to the server, modules keep running for longer before the server decides you logged/DCed.
Not saying that is the full explanation but it could be partially responsible.

Any active modules will still run if you disconnect.
Also it was changed some time ago, so you won't regain shield and capacitor when you disconnect, which is good.
That's what I recall anyways.

This was without any mods running, and by mid-summer (unsure when exactly the last occurrence was) you would regain cap while offline.
And why is it good..its a major nerf to anyone who ever logs off in space..

Exploits
* Several exploit issues have been fixed, making EVE a better world to live in for us all.
guesing this is the patch note for it. Was used to fast travel with caps. jump log 90 seconds log back in jump.

Cap ships could regain all their cap this way and travel faster than was intended and apparently too many people were exploiting this. --------------------------------------------

you can jump in with your cap ship, log off, wait until your cap regenerates, log on, make the next jump but obviously logging on and off, on and off, on and off, to achieve your goal is not a valid way to play the game

I was aware of that..but it is not an exploit merely a consequence of game mechanics. It also didn't work when aggroed obviously as your ship needed to disappear from space..so, again, why is it an exploit? I'd like to hear some comment from CCP about this because it is quite a big change, especially for supercap pilots.

Edited by: Chainsaw Plankton on 18/10/2009 23:03:48 I want to say it has been like that for a while*. but also when you log out the server decides your skills don't count either, but you said no mods were running so that shouldn't change anything there. although it could go from percentages to absolute cap, but that doesn't make much sense to do.
but sounds like a pain in the ass, well, aside from the wait 2 mins, jump again crowd.
*edit, I used to have some connection problems and I would almost always come back more then 2 mins later with not full cap.

Docking request denied. Your ship is too large to dock here.

SHADOW0240 said "seriously .... why does it matter? just dock up for a min..." Some of us live-in Eve areas where docking up can takes a few hours or days to find a dock and you don't always have that amount of time to dock.

I would imagine the intent was for cap ships to be vulnerable to attack during the time the needed to recharge cap after a jump. By immediately logging off to recharge said cap you were circumventing the intended game mechanic. Not really an exploit, as to my knowledge no warning against this tactic was ever announced, however it is pretty clear that it circumvented the intent of the mechanics in place for cap ship movement (and said moments of vulnerability during those movements).
There has traditionally been two sides to the logging off coin.
1: The need to try and be fair to those that, through no fault of their own, lose connection.
2: The need to minimize giving incentive for people to use log off tactics to gain an advantage over their opponents or circumvent elements of game balance.
Allowing cap to recharge while not connected does nothing for those in category one, but gave a decided advantage to those in category two.
Seems like a pretty straight forward decision.

I agree that it needed a change but why so radical? Now cap doesn't even recharge passively while off-line, I re logged my dread just the now and still have 30-ish % cap from when I jumped and logged yesterday.
They could set an certain amount of time, say, 5 hours, after which your cap would respawn full after being logged off for at least that long?

why should it? just because its a big change, doesnt mean it's a bad one. There doesnt have to be a logged off recharge rate. There's no point. Not gameplay wise, not RP wise. Yes, i am a cap pilot too. It makes things harder, but before it was really too easy.
