I bought this char and it has negative standings with caldari and I was wondering what's the best way to repair those standings? or is it even possible?

As one who "had" a low faction standing with the Caldari, I now have a skill level in Diplomancy 5, which brought my faction standings to the Caldari to -1.75. Which allows me to talk to the Caldari agents now.
I will have to work my way up thru the various levels of agents and quality of same.
Only Storyline missions affect your faction standings. Do not take any missions that have you shooting any factions.
If Diplomacy does not bring your faction standing up high enough, then try missioning for the Amarr. Storyline missions for them will indirectly affect your Caldari standings. Every Plan lasts until the first shot is fired. "I have a Plan, a good one." Generally means it is not. If Yellow it get a Fellow Killed |

Interesting I will have to try that, although I hate amarr space. hate using thier stations when they shoot you out the bottom on undock like your a pile of turd they are expelling from the station. Looks even more so when you're flying a minmatar ship in amarr space.
what about shooting NPC rats in low sec (specific faction type for amarr)? does that only help your security rating?

What does this mean exactly? what type of missions would I do then?

After 16 missions of any kind, you will get a Storyline Mission.
Any combat related/connected mission where you shoot any Faction ships/structures ie Amarr, Caldari etc, will impact your standing with that Faction.
Once your faction standing reached -5.0 or less, that faction will shoot at you when you enter that factions space.
At a faction standing of -2.0 or less no agents with that Faction will talk to you.

I very much doubt standing correcttion agency can get you FACTION standings.
Outside of Amarr (and Ammatar and Khanid) there is also Mordus Legion for the most desperate. It all works though derived standings from storyline missions for friendly faction (see "likes" tab on Caldari standing info).
If you are above -5 raw (-2 post diplomacy V) your Caldari standings are fine and need no special treatment(except maybe training Dipmlomacy to get it above that -2 modified).

Faction has way in too many meaning so I will try to make that reply it clearer.
1) if you want to keep your faction standing up you need to refuse the missions that ask you to shoot ship belonging to that faction. Killing ships belonging to a faction is the only way to take that faction standing below -5 (the last point where diplomacy will still allow yout o run missions for that faction).
2) the other way to affect the standing with a faction is to run storyline missions. Those missions will give you positive standing with the faction to wick the corporation giving it belong and to the factions friendly with the and negative standing with the opposite factions.
Those negative standing increases will not lower your standing below -5 unless you kill ships belonging to a NPC faction.
So BlindBleau was suggesting to refuse all the missions that ask you to kill Caldari (and possibly al the other empire faction) ships.
Depending on your goals you can accept missions against pirates (and the pirate factions will become inaccessible to you after a few missions) or, if you want to keep a chance to work with all the factions in game, you can limit your missions to those against: mercenaries, drones, Enemy of Mainkind and The Sevens, all groups that don't belong to any faction.
Generally empire missioners accept all the mission agaisnt pirates and get horrible standing with all the pirae factions.

Running missions for them will get you ALL 4 factions standing to 4 or 4.5 canĘt remember.

Unfortunately, I don't believe this is true. The Sisters of EVE seem to have negative standings to the Amarr Empire and Caldari State.
Here is the table of inter-faction standings:
http://www.newedenlibrary.net/eon/faction_standings.shtml
Note: The Interbus does have positive standings to all 4 empire factions. It's not a big positive though, so it will take a lot of Intebus missions to raise a negative standing any amount at all.

Mission requires shooting at ships or structures belonging to player factions (Caldari, Amarr, Gallente, Minmatar): Decline the mission.
Mission requires shooting at ships or structures belonging to pirate factions (Sanchas, Blood Raiders, Serpentis, Guristas, Mercenaries, etc.): Accept the mission.
All mission reports have a faction icon (right-click for standings info on likes and dislikes) in them, or are against mercenaries if there isn't an icon. It is ok to destroy player faction ships in mercenary missions.

Edited by: Righteous Deeds on 20/10/2009 23:13:18 SOE will give you positive increase to Minmatar and Gallente factions, but will in fact give you very small hits to your Caldari and Amarr standings.
The Interbus no longer has any agents, so you can't run missions for them.
The trick is to use that chart and manage a bunch a different agents to give you positive standings for major factions.

would this work?
I get a friend to do missions in amarr space, I fly there and dock at the station he's running agents out of. He runs his missions, and we fleet up and I get the bonus for LP and standings wise, would that work to increase my standings?

if you do your own missions for amarr you will get a storyline every 16 missions that will have a slight positive effect on your caldari

Only for that corporation, not that faction. You only receive storylines for every 16 missions of a given level faction combo that YOU initiate. I've been through this now and its a PITA.
If you are below -5 absolute (i.e. without diplomacy) then your ONLY option is to find a faction that likes the given faction and initiate enough missions to get a storyline with the second faction, completing that will give you derived standing.
It can be a long process, and they really need to offer a more concrete and ordered way to maintain the standings, as getting completely shut out of parts of space and or parts of the game (missions) is a really poor design mechanic. While they offer a way to fix it, it can be near impossible in some cases.
Best of luck to you.

Are you sure? I did a search in game, and I did get a list of agents that were "available" to me. However, I haven't actually tried talking to any of these agents yet.

They just don't have any storyline agents.
IE: You do not want to mission for them.

Thank you, I should have been more specific. Essentially, Interbus is useless for managing faction standings.

completed the storyline, shared the rewards and no standings was passed to me. what a huge ****ing waste of time that was.

For a while there I couldn't even enter calmari space, then ah trained diplomacy 5 and crunched a bunch of missions for khanids and now can access calmari for missions...
Don't forget the smaller factions with derived standings when you get a bit stuck... Is this the face that launched a thousand rifters? |

Well the problem with that is if you enter calmari space George Lucus will sue. If anyone else here can do that, let CCP know. I don't want it to go badly for them. We'll end up walking into a station to see Jar Jar Binks. I'd have to rage quit. =============================== Two words: Internet Spaceships |
