I run Eve on two separate computers.
Today, I booted the first computer into Eve and tried to log into my account. "You are #2 in queue..."
I logged in on the second account with no warnings about a queue. Surprised, I tried to connect again and found I was still #2 in queue.
This leads me to two conclusions: 1) There's a clientside limiter that doesn't let you connect after you've been given a slot in queue until the server sends you an update. 2) Some accounts are bypassing the queue.
To check this out, I googled the phenomenon and found the "Apocrypha 1.5 Issues Thread"
Originally by: "Xessej on August 20th, 2009" In more than 15 minutes I've moved up less than 300 places in the login queue. In that time the server reports adding almost 500 players. So why is it taking so long to login and how are some people bypassing the queue?
So this might've been a problem at one point, though it's possible it was fixed and 1) is correct.
Anyone have similar experiences? |

Edited by: Oscar Fedora on 22/10/2009 11:54:36 i think the proxy you connect to has multiple entry points (load balanced) sometimes 1 client needs to wait, while another client connects to the proxy and gets forwarded to the login thing.
one trick that 9/10 works is once you get a queue close that client and restart it.
so my conclusion is: 1. don't know 2. Absolute not true _________________________________________

Accounts in no way bypass the queue. Or limit you.
The way you login is that you are put through a proxy of which there are quite a few of them to help allow multiple logins simultaneously. If there are more people logging in than there are proxies you are placed in a queue.
This is all fine, but you are only shown your queue on booting the client and assuming it is a low number like <10 and you haven;t already tried logging in you can wait a few secnd sand then login successfully. If the number is large like after a patch or expansion you cannot use the queue system since it neither works or exists. It is simply showing the average number of simultaneous connections above the number of actual proxies that handle logins.
No one is bypassing or being limited it is simply the token that is passed from proxy to proxy to accept the next login and whatever client lines up on hitting enter the first time on boot on busy days gets through.
I believe back in 2006-7 there was a queue system since i remember it but it has since been neglected and no longer exists. ------------------------------------- Don't click the links or even the forum topics. |

Ding. Though it appears not quite like that, it seems more like your client locks you out from trying again until a certain period has lapsed and it checks with the server again after that, to stop you from hammering it.
Opening a second copy of the client and attempting to connect on the same account will bypass the queue unless there still is one, and queues for Eve seem to last only a few seconds unless there's just been a major crash / patch.
It thus has nothing to do with particular accounts, just the client preventing you from hammering the proxy, probably to stop it from falling over under high load situations.
