i have this problem under windows 7. I have a dual screen setup, on each screen i run a windowed eve client (which are to big because windows 7 won't allow you to place the top window bar outside the screen). Now when i play with both chars active, warping and shooting and stuff suddenly my machine powers off.
this probleem seems to start out of the blue and it doesn't have a straight interval.. it happens after random playtime.
I also only have this problem when i'm using my 2 chars active. if i have 1 char in station i don't seem to have the problem (yet). _________________________________________

Could it be temperature related?
The way you say it in your OP makes the temperature a suspect. You may want to try to clean the fans a bit or increase the fan speed.
Try monitoring your temps a bit while playing. With 2 clients in space shooting and warping, thing tend to get hot very quickly.
Hope it helps!

I am thinking the same. Probably Video Card fan. Monitor video card temperature also

er... no. Overheating problems show exactly the characteristics you have described. It was the first thing I thought of when reading your OP.
Take the advice and check running temperatures, clean your fans etc. If nothing else you will have eliminated another possibility.
The fact that it doesn't happen on XP strengthens the overheating argument as Vista is more CPU intensive and therefore generates more heat.
Good luck solving this one.

Same Problem i've had on Wednesday after 4 Patches from Microsoft. At random times my PC does a Reset, the Fan of Graphic-Card turns to maximum a short time like at turning on my Computer. Please try this: System Restored to last known running (Tuesday before Patches) and now its stable. OK, one important Patch is installed, but for today no crashes. Greetings

I'm having the same problem and it started maybe 2 weeks ago. I'm running Windows 7 and when I run dual clients I will get a BSOD after a random period of time. It may be 30 mins or 6 hours. This is the only time I've ever had a BSOD and it has no info other than your computer was shut down to prevent damage. I've ran memory/cpu tests overnight and ran my video card through the ringer and can't get a crash anywhere but running two Eve clients. One will run forever without a problem. The really odd thing is this started suddenly, nothing was changed on my system.

Windows 7 uses more "ramz" than XP (and less than Vista)
And now, heating a component to the point of shut-off wont happen instantly. Sure, in computers it happens quickly, but not instantly. It also cools from the dangerous temperature very quickly.
Think of ur typical curve graph in most chemical science results. It will lose its high temperature fast, and gradually slow its rate of cooling as it gets closer to room temperature.

For the "too big windows" use Gamers window relocator, It removes the window borders. I use this all the time with my dual clients on w7. works great.
I also had a lot of crashes, turned out to be the graphic card overheating, i just underclocked my GPU and RAM in nvidia control panel, 50% cpu/ram speed, and set fan to 100%.. didnt really see any performace loss.. also running all on max settings

you can also go in; Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center\Make it easier to focus on tasks........ and mark in; prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen.
this will allow you to move the window arround without auto arrange.

OP it sounds like you may just be overheating your processor and your bios shuts the power off to save it. This happened to me with windows vista and running 4 clients alt tabbed, one on each core. I would check the connection between your fan heat sink and your processor maybe it needs more paste and tighten the screws holding it down.

this is what happend... i had a quadcore q9300 which idle state tempature was like 70 to 80 Celcius.... started 1 client..... temp went up to 100... second client temp went up to 130... then the pc died...
today i bought a new cooling unit... now my cpu is stable at 50-60 celcius when fully loaded :) _________________________________________

Also for the to big windows... you need to disable windows Aero Snap feature. Currently its a reg hack.. pretty simple. Look it up on internet. Enjoy!
