If possible, make the client disable the osx function keys, my habits of f1-f8 result in me turning up and down brightness and volume and other random things
other games too this you need to!
pleasepleaseplease
if on the other hand I'm being a stupid lazy ass, and there is a tickybox i have overlooked please enlighten me as i couldn't find it last i checked |

There is such a box, but its in the OSX preferences.
System preferences > Keyboard > Use all F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys.
Once set, you need to hold down the fn key while typing F1 and so on to change brightness and so on, and pressing the F1 key alone will control Eve. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

while that is true, i don't want to change the shortcuts, other games/software packages come with the ability to block system shortcuts, its also pretty handy for key mappings and not getting in the way of system shortcuts with eve shortcuts |

I agree it would be nice to have Eve automatically toggle the function key setting but remember this is a Windows application working through an OS X packaging layer. So I doubt it is practicable.
I went through a period of remembering to toggle the setting in options before / after playing Eve. Now I just leave it set for Eve and use the fn key when I am in normal OS X mode. You get used to it after a while. |

whilst true, I'm sure the wrapper has some sort of functionality to disable the function keys
